I want to hear some other interesting fishing stories out there about other things being caught when trying to fish for bass.
I threw my crankbait, I see this flock of ducks flying by, the line caught one and then proceeded to run along the duck until the crankbait caught it. The duck went head first into the lake. I was feeling bad, didn't know what to do. Fortunately my partner lent me a hand, we cranked the duck to the boat, he grab it by the neck, it pooped on the deck :-), and he was able to cut the hook off and release the line. The duck swam off, no idea if he was 100% alright or not. My first catch of the day and it wasn't even the same species, white bass, hybrid, no problem, but a water fowl? Come'on. Unbelievable but true.
Thanks John for the hand.

Fishing with brother a couple months ago. Dark-Thirty in the morning. He casts out topwater, lots of splashing and hook setting ensue.. Close to the shore we realize it's a large bird. No fun trying to get the trebles out!

I still say you should have put it in the livewell & brought it to the scales. Jay just loves it when something other than LMB shows up!

I want to hear some other interesting fishing stories out there about other things being caught when trying to fish for bass. One day I was fishing at the Trinity River from a low-head dam. Just as I had made a cast toward shore, I saw a bird out of the corner of my eye. It swooped in front of me, hit the line, cartwheeled across the water like a WWII fighter plane, and flew to shore with the line tangled around its foot. Other birds gathered around it while it flopped around on the shore. As I moved in to see if I could help (and recover my spinner bait), it suddenly freed itself and the birds flew away.

I was night fishing out at Hubbard last year and fishing in a marina when I had a cast go bad and it ended up on the walk way in the boat slips and a duck grabbed my worm and flew out of the other side of the slip and hooked itself. All that I heard was alot of quakin and a hard pull that went into the air so I desided to go ahead and try to land it until my line got cut by the roof of the boat house.
Today out there I hit a duck with the trolling motor while doing 65 mph across the lake. Have this happen and I bet you will wonder if you need to go a check your pants!!!

Local game warden is wondering if you have your Duck Stamps--he said he will see you about it tomorrow. BUT he said you don't need a stamp for the Duck POOP.

Fishing a club T with my father in law when his reel started singing from drag going out. Fishing ultra light drop shots as the bite was slow!! He fought this thing for 10 minuites, I reeled in thinking I was fiving to net the biggest fish either of us had ever caught and finally it shows itself and its a 10 pound turtle!! Big old red eared slider with a roboworm 6 inches down his throat! We worked on getting that hook out for 20 minuites so he would survive. Was freakin halirous to me, not to funny to my father in law as he was leading the T after day one. He thought he wrapped it up if he could land this bass. Hahahahha, trophy turtle guys. Danny

Caught a small 3 foot alligator on a spook once. He finally came off. My wife caught a cat on a spinnerbait once. She made a cast and it landed on the bank, that cat had that bait and was running off with it before you could say BOO! It came off also.
Caught a 6 foot water snake on a fluke once had to cut the line.
Sometimes it just shouldn't be called "fishing"!

My old man hooked a sea gull years back while we were wade fishing in Texas City. It took off and my dad had to respool his reel. We were about 4 or 5 hundred yards out on the calm side of the dyke so he did it right there chest deep in the water. I wasn't too happy since he made me help him.

I've caught grebes on Clear Lake every now and then on rattle traps or cranks. I hit a water turkey with a spook on a bet a couple months ago. I told my buddy that if I hit it, he had to unhook it. He didn't think I could get close to him. I expected the bait to bounce off the bird, but it stuck like a dart.
The worst critter other than fish that I have ever got was a couple weeks ago when I had a river otter take a shot at my dink bass that was hooked up. Otter got the front hook of my crank in his foot. That was one unhappy otter. I got him close to the boat, and he tried to get in the boat with me. I was able to keep him held away from the boat as he was a growling and writhing furball of fury, and sounded like he wanted a piece of me. I started to get into my rod locker to get my pistol out, but he managed to free himself from my LuckyCraft.

Th absolute strangest was a Great Horned Owl that took a liking to my black Buzz bait at Richland Chambers one night. The Owl grabbed it right off the water and flew straight at me.. I had to duck! Luckily I was fishing off the bank and it dropped the bait about 30ft behind me right after I turned loose of the rod... We were both completely surprised! I'm so glad it did not get hooked.. No way was I going to try to get a hook out of an adult Great Horned Owl! I also hit a Bat on Bob Sandlin while casting at night.. it was a funny feeling to hit an object in mid swing with nothing above me to hit..except a Bat. We got the spot light and found it laying stunned on the water. To my relief it did finally wake up and flew away. We've had several Gulls get tangled in lines while drift fishing offshore and I had one attack a Red Fin inshore that got free by it's self. Caught a few turtles on live and artificials.. plenty of Drum, Buffalo, Gar, Grinnels and Catfish. Bazz

we cranked the duck to the boat, he grab it by the neck, it pooped on the deck :-), I guess that is why they call it the poop deck.

I was fishing down on the Atchafalaya Basin a couple of weeks ago. I was working a horny toad over some floating vegetation in a ditch coming out to a canal. I was very focused on my frog and didn't notice the barn owl that flew out of the tree until he picked it up and was flying off with it. He got to the end of my 65 lb braid and it jerked him (or her) down into the water. It got up on a stump or something and I kept trying to shake it away from him, but I was only shaking his leg. I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO REEL IT IN TO THE BOAT!!! He pecked at it a couple of times. I don't know if he was trying to get the hook out or just trying to eat the frog. He finally flew off one more times and dropped it as he took off.
A little later we were fishing the back of another canal and were watching a three-foot gator. My partner caught a fish and we lost sight of the gator (not that we were intimidated by it). I saw it and asked my partner if that was the same one. He said "where?", so I cast my t-rig with-in a foot to 18" of him. As I was reeling it by him, he lunged out and snapped at it. Once again, I didn't set the hook, but just kept tension on it hoping he would let go. He really started chomping on it and then thrashed side to side and I thought for sure he stuck the hook in himself. He started out turned away from us and by this time was facing straight toward me. Lucky for me he was, because he started death rolling. Since he was facing me, my braid didn't wrap around his mouth. He thrashed it a couple more times and then started swimming off and to my surprise, just dropped the weight and hook out of his mouth.
I was telling my tournament partner that since I had just helped him out with a grinnel and a gar, he had to help me get the gator off. He said I was on my own. Can you believe that?

I've caught snakes, frogs, turtles, birds, etc., etc. but 23 years ago a Lab puppy grabbed my crankbait while I was picking out a backlash. I had a heck of a time with that little guy getting the hook out. I still feel bad about that to this day.

I think I got a story that can top this one! This summer fishing lake raven, my buddy Brice caught a bat! It was at night and he casted out and came back with that on the end! He has some pictures, maybe he will catch this and post them. Sad to report that the little guy didn't make it, it was either him or me gettin' bit and a rabies shot...

had a kingfisher hit a black and blue lizard in 4ft of water, it flew off with the lizard in tow, let go, then came back hovered a few seconds and hit it again. Dropped it again and sat up in a tree complaining to me - in a loud chatter. have had snakes on bass asasins, snapping turtles on jigs and pigs more than once. Nutruria hit a buzzbaits, frogs on worms. Fun times.

I was fishing a fun tournament in late August this year. The water was cooling, so I was throwing a Sammy hoping for a big one to fall prey. I cast up toward shore, the perfect cast, right between a couple rocks, the kind of cast that swells your chest a tad, I start working the Sammy back toward the boat over the deeper water, when a beaver surfaces from under the back part of the boat and starts swimming toward the front of the boat between myself and my Sammy. The beaver swims over the top of my line. I watch as the line goes under the beavers neck, and pulls the Sammy into itself. Nothing I could do. The Sammy gets hung in the top of the beavers head and the fight is on. 10 lb. pline, a $15 Sammy, and a 30 pound beaver. I don't want to cut the line, I don't want to loose the Sammy, I don't want the hook in the beavers head.......I figure if I can get the beaver close to the boat, maybe I can reach down and pop the hook lose. The beaver and I go at it for a good 5 minutes, finally it comes up near the boat, I kneel down with my leatherman pliars to reach for the hook.....POP!, out comes the hook at a high rate of speed back towards me. In the span of 2 seconds, I went from trying to get a hook out of a beavers head, to having a hook embedded in my forhead! The co-angler in my boat that day saw it all!

I was fishing a pond one time and we had been catching several fish on a spinnerbait. There was a large willow tree on the shoreline and I kept hearing something splashing underneath. I could not get a spinnerbait under it so I decided the only way to catch these fish was to go through the top. I picked up my trusty jig and pig and threw it up in the air and it went crashing down into the willow, I started to peel off enough line to get it in the water and it when it did the water swirled. I rared back and set the hook on the fish, except it wasn't a fish. It was a big frog. He looked like someone shot him out of a cannon when it flew about 20 feet in the air. It landed on the ground and my brother is rolling around on the ground laughing so hard I thought he was going to throw up. Well I took the hook out and said to well since the bass stopped biting I'm going frog fishing. I threw the bait up in the air and it went back down in the tree and I caught another one.
Oh Yeah, it was a blue jig with blue pork if you want to try this.
