By far for me: McBee's in Jourdanton and Pleasnton. The owners of that atrocity should be locked up. This place is a true embarassment to Texas BBQ. I thought thats how they BBQed in Boston or Minnesota.
Another that is hardly better than McBee's is Lone Star in McAllen.
Let's say you?

A little stand near Lake Travis and Spicewood, had an item called gorilla ribs. I think they wer beef but not sure. One rib covered the whole plate. Foulest tasting, raw piece of meat I ever had in my life. Even the ice tea was rancid. Asked the guy aboutt he tea. Said he made it the night before and left it out in an aluminum pitcher. I think he made it with the dish water. That was years ago and the place is probably burned down long ago by the customers.

One more place in Alabama called the Friend of Man Bar B Que. The name should have been a clue. It was a restaurant near a truck stop. I asked for a plate of pork ribs. They didnt fix ribs. I asked for some chopped brisquet. Waitress didn't know what brisket was. I asked what did they have and how did they fix it. The bought a ham and a pot roast, chopped the meat up and put it in slow cookers with BBQ sauce. No pit anywhere in the place.

One more:On I 95 in South Carolina just past the Georgia line saw a sign advertising BBQ Special on the Buffet at the Truck Stop. So I stopped. Shredded beef again; just boiled and shredded as far as I could determine and placed in a pan on the buffet line. Well Dang. I got some of it on my plate and went looking for the BBQ sauce. All I found was some stuff in a vinegar bottle. Kinda green looking [censored]. That was the BBQ sauce. Some kind of oily vinegar based hot sauce. God Awful. smelly, foul tasting................yuck

Sonny Bryans- How do they stay in business? Davilas in Seguin- The service was as cold as the food Blanco BBQ-- I should have known when I walked in and saw philly cheesesteak on the menu. The guy running the place was pure Yankee and was tweaking his arse off. Gave me some sticks of charcoal, was supposed to be ribs. This was about 10 years ago, maybe things are better now. Luling City Market- Legendary ribs? Not on my first(and last visit) All the meat was cooked off the bone. Ate a whole rack and was still hungry. Rude service. The other BBQ place in Luling is much better.

I have eaten many times at the Sonny Bryans on Inwood and would rate it very high on my list. I lived in Memphis for several years and found Memphis BBQ in general was overrated, especially The Rondevous.

I've been to the Sonny Bryans on Inwood 3 times and it was bad all three times. Maybe its just bad timing. It smelled great. I hear that Mike Anderson's just down the road from there on Harry Hines is good, I'll have to try that. I eat at a BBQ place in Terrell quite a bit. I've had real bad food there about 5 times, but thats over a 20 year period and I've probably eaten there 300 times. Sonny Bryan's was 3 out of 3. I think someone else posted a bad review of them on here, but I don't know if it was the Inwood location. I apologise if I have offended anyone, I just gave an honest answer to the post based on my personal experiences.

I agree on the Sonny Bryans opinions. It's terrible. They think is so clever to have everyone sit in those old rickety school desks. What a joke. $5 for a chopped beef. Screw that place.

Underwoods in Brownwood or any other place for that matter under the same banner and ownership. Not bad rolls or fried chicken but the worst excuse for something they call barbecue.

Well, it wasn't actually a bbq place but I made the mistake of ordering the "slow smoked baby back ribs" at a restaurant one evening while on a business trip in Hagerstown, MD. Not seeing a big pit outside or any smoke rolling out of there should have been my first clue but I guess I was just tired. All they did was throw a rack of ribs in boiling water till they were about to fall off the bone, toss them on a hot grill and slathered them in bbq sauce. Pretty bland and no smoke flavor whatsoever. It was difficult to keep a straight face when the waitress kept asking me how the ribs were. I left over half the rack on the plate, which never happens at home, and opted for the salad bar.. Never again will I eat bbq north of the Mason-Dixon line..

Schoepfs Old Time Pit BBq , Belton. Worst pork chop I have ever tasted. Sucker was mushy and tasteless. But the beans were pretty good!!

I vote for "SHORTY's" in downtown South Miami. Famous bbq but it aint like Texas BBQ. Looks like sliced Deli roast beef with a strong vinegary sauce. Place was nice, they feed you plenty but like I said, "It aint Texas".

Just about any place in Oklahoma north of say Atoka... except for "My Place" in Muskogee.
Any place in Georgia.
I know it was supposed to be great...and was expensive, but I never cared for Joe Cotton's in Robstown. (Is it still in business?)
Colters..... Blahhhhh.....
Sonny Bryan's is awful.
Gotta disagree with ya on the Luling City Market roadtrip. But then again I never had their ribs. But everything I ever had there was kick-arse good....mmmmmm...wish I was there now.

Not so much, DCD. The Georgian, and other southern BBQ, is very different than Texas BBQ, but it still very much has its place. Just have to open your closed little mind a little. I still prefer the spicy vinegar based sauce over the stuff that passes as melted pralines, only sweeter here in Texas. Check out Redneck's Peanut BBQ just west of the Athens' city limit. Cooper's and the old Kreuz's still rein supreme.

Wife's relatives live there and they smoked a butt one day for pulled pork. Thats was the nastiest stuff! Now the rest of the food that they cooked while we were there was awesome!

I've had Chilis ribs at the Forney location and they were pretty good. I guess I got the good cook. There is a c-store in Terrell that sells BBQ, at least thats what the sign says. I ordered BBQ sandwiches. When I got home I looked at them and coulnt find the BBQ. The substance on the bun looked like left over burnt grease you normally find at the bottom of an iron skillet. It tasted like they used old barn wood to cook it with. Dont remember the name of the place, but they are on hwy 34. Sammy Walkers in Forney gets my thumbs up.

In the mid 80's I worked close to downtown FW. There was a small c-store called Greenway, but we called it the Greenfly.
Anyway back then the sold chopped BBQ sammies 2 for $1. Wasn't too bad, but for that price, we ate about 4 of them and were stuffed! Went there about twice a week.

Hard 8 in Coppell is TERRIBLE. Add, Dickie's/Coulters/Bill Miller to the list. Clarks in Tioga isn't that great either.
Sonny B's is good. I don't understand all the Hate. Yeah, it's kinda pricey, but it's consistent and generally not bad. Try different locations: Frankford/Tollway, Campbell/Coit, MacArthur in Irving. all are pretty decent and clean.
As for the BEST in Texas:
Mike Anderson's on Harry Hines Bodacious BBQ in Mt. Pleasant Rudy's in Round Rock off 35 - EXTRA Moist Brisket Goode Company in Houston Salt Lick - in Driftwood ( Bee Caves location sucks ) Cross Town BBQ in Elgin Railhead - Ft. Worth Randy Whites in Frisco
I'm sure there are others...

Pat's Low Grade Dog Food List:
Mikeskas in Taylor...and next door to one of the best in the states-Louie Muellers, how do they stay open?
Any of the Hard 8's I've been to were just nasty.
Poor boy's in Salado...oh my, my dog wouldn't eat it and she scarfs cat turds...
There's a lot more, those are just memorably bad.
And anything I've ever had in Virginia, N or S Carolina, Georgia were just stuff, but not very good stuff at that.

I liked Clark's in Tioga the one time I ate there. I used to like the Mikeska's in Temple but that was over 20 years ago.

No one has mentioned Colters, so here is a vote for them. I did!!! I did!!! That stuff was really bad. Someone just mentioned Dickey's. I finally broke down and tried Dickey's the other day. It wasn't the best that I have had, but it certainly wasn't the worst!

Place called the "Rib Crib" in Tulsa OK. They really don't have any good BBQ up there. Agree with you Bigbob, I ate at a Rib Crib in Searcy Arkansas, and it looked and tasted like low grade dog food

It really bothers me when I have to hold my Sonny's Q sandwich with both hands to keep that awful brisket from falling out and when the Bud is served in a UNFROSTED mug. The sauce you have to put on yourself really makes it difficult to not get enough on the Q. I really get irritated when the rings are not large and it only takes one bite to finish one off. And that is all I have to say about that except when you go in to get seconds the birds carry off the Q .

Boy...I gotta agree with you guys.... anything with the name Mikeskas...Is a trip to the "VOMITORIUM!!!" I have to be careful on my directions when I send folks to Muellers in Taylor (One of the best in the state!} Cause they share the same parking lot!!!!

Not that we have a reputation up here on the " Giant Side " as the well deserved joints in East Texas, but most of us West Texans appreciate good BBQ.
Rudy's does not fall into that category. AWFUL !!!

Nut Rudy's where? I've only eatin at the original Rudy's (many times) and had some brought to me once from the Round Rock location. And it was always excellent. Can't speak for other locations.
