In the area where I live, I have to pick Rudy's. I have heard Sonny Bryan's in Dallas is pretty tasty. Would like to give them a try.

Where I live the best place to eat bbq is Rudy's as well and that is pretty dang sad. There is no such thing as good or even decent bbq in deep sotuh Texas. The best bbq I have ever had is Tex's bbq in between Washington and Brenham. Read the Tex's bbq thread.

The best place I have found is at my brothers house where we cook everything from steak, quail, beef, chicken, all kinds of sausages, fajita meat, stuffed jalepenos and buffalo turds, salmon, catfish, pork loin, pork chops, corn on the cob, vegetables, turkey. Well, you name it we have cooked it on the grill and being in a Czech family there was usually a little beer involved.

Around Ft. Worth, I don't think that you can beat Cousins, although I would like to try Railhead someday.

1. Kreuz's Market in Lockhart for sausage and brisket. 1A. City Market in Luling, lots of good choices. 2. Cooper's in Llano for beef. 3. The Church of the Holy Barbecue (Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville) used to be great for pork ribs.

That was pretty dang close... I've traveled (and munched) across the state my whole life. Lot's of barbecue, here's my favs...
Any of the Coopers, Llano, Mason, Junction, whatever you pick off the line, you'll thank yourself for stopping there.
Louie Muellers in Taylor, second but not by much..
Kruez in Lockhart, always worth the stop.
City Market in Luling ditto.
Rudy's fills a hole, won't kill you, but not even in the same class.
Salt lick is a nice trip with visitors, but again not the same class.
But this of course is a discussion that can lead to a parking lot scrape in a hurry.

I haven't eaten there in quite awhile but some of the dead level best bbq I can remember, next to mine of course, was to be found at Cottons in Robstown second only to Kreuz or City Market in Luling and Lockhart.

It's been 10 years or so, but Joe Cottons was great back then! Even bring ya a little more meat if you didn't get full! Wax paper, plasticware and tuxedos!

BBROWN...maybe I had a bad experience but I thought Angelo's was horrible. Robinson's is good...good beans too. Railhead all you can eat beef ribs....they changed us over to pork after our 4th or 5th time of ordering more, there were 8 of us and it looked like a graveyard at our table, but yeah they weren't shabby. There was a little place out by Winters, TX called The Shed....they had some great BBQ don't know if they are still open though. My favorite is still my dad's house.

I've tried to make that sauce and I havn't had any luck yet.I think they got too big. They had opened up places in Sweetwater & Winters besides the place in Wingate. It wasn't long and they were all closed. They should have stayed with the first place.

Combine City Market's (in Luling) sausage, pork ribs and sauce, along with Kreuz beef and pork chops and house them in Smitty's building (which used to be the old Kreuz). That's what heaven must be like.

Coopers in Llano is a must stop everytime we go past there. Ate one time at the Coopers in Junction and it wasnt worth the money. dont know if we just hit at a bad time but we wont ever stop there again. Another good place is an all you can eat at a little ole Baptist church in Huntsville off of Hwy 75. Maybe someone knows the name but always eat there too when we are in the area. Muelllers in Taylor was a bit pricey for my budget.

You haven't had good BBQ if you think Rudy's is the "best". Rudy's is good but they are in the same league as Colters, Spring Creek, and etc. Those places to BBQ, is like Taco Bell is to Mexican Food.

I think Kreuz in Lockhart is the best in the State and I've been to a bunch of them all over Texas and most of the Southeast for that matter. Sides aren't much to speak of, no sause and you only get a plastic knife, but the BBQ is the best, can't beat the pork ribs anywhere. For those that like Coopers, it's not a favorite of mine, the one in Mason is the best.

The Railhead in Ft. Worth is just simply fantastic (IMHO). The owners are great and give all of us Military folks a 50% discount while on duty.
I've not tried their ribs, but brisket-turkey-sausage-chicken all fantastic. They also have nice draught beer selection, served in old-time frozen scooners.
I'm makin' my own mouth water.
Give 'em a try if you are ever on the west-side of Ft. Worth Brent

Xtreme Bar-B-Que located on 334, next to Sonic, in Seven Points is a great Barbque restaurant doing a brisk business since moving from Gun Barrel last month. Ample servings and good prices on ribs, brisket, ham, and pulled pork. All are excellent, give them a try when you are in the Cedar Creek area.

Well here in Keller if it aint BBQ its Mex, but I'd have to say Cousins or Soda Springs BBQ. If your looking for a good meal with a view then try The Smoke Pit in Ft Worth.

Ample servings and good prices on ribs, brisket, ham, and pulled pork. All are excellent, give them a try when you are in the Cedar Creek area. I TOLD YOU! I need to check it out the next time Im home. I swear that place changes names and paint once every 3 months

The best BBQ I'v had was a guy at my church in Tool that made BBQ for fellowship gatherings. Since he developed cancer he no longer has the strength to do it anymore.
Now that Im in Waco, Vitek's is tough to beat. If youre in the area stop by and get you a gut pack.

In San Antonio, it's Barbecue Station. 410 & Harry Wurzbach. The brisket is excellent and the creamed corn is great. the ribs and chicken are also great! We eat there at least once a week.

Not to start a parking lot scrape, but for sausage: SouthSide Market in Elgin has no peer!
Brisket, well there are tons of em all over this GREAT state, and one that ranks close to the top is right here in the BIG D: The Hickory House on Industrial. Been there since 1945, is a serioius, hard core smokehouse dive, and still has the quintessential Big Hair, Down Home, Only in Texas Carhop, that gives you dazzling personal service, will know your life history by the time you start on the second ice crystals oozing down the side of the bottle long neck, and you will wonder how the hell this absolutely spectacular sliced beef, oozing juice, moist, one of a kind pure smokehouse beef flavor, ever escaped your attention to start with!
Ribs: well, there have been some near nameless places on country roads in the Hill country, some true smokehouse dives pretty much anywhere in Texas, that had some incredible ribs to serve to me over the years, so that one is hard to pin down. One particular serving of my all time favorite bbq subspecies, i got in the little general store/bait shop/saloon/bbq joint in Circleville, Tx, at the foot of the bridge crossing the San Gabriel River. Memorable, and that was 30 some odd years ago! It was THAT DAMN GOOD!
