When I was growing up all the guys I fished with used cheap dog food as chum & it always seemed to work for them. Does this method still work nowadays?
give a man a fish, feed him for a day. teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.

Does this method still work nowadays? I've heard that it does work. As with carp, almost anything you'd feed your dog or a chicken might make a good chum or bait for catfish.

I would say that you need to make sure it sinks most these days float and unless the kittys are trained to take it off the top it might not be the best....

Just my opinion, I think range cubes are much better than dog food.

Ole roy soaked for an hour or so sinks slowly, and really works for me. I think the rendered fat, salt, and other flavorings meant to get your dog to eat that [censored] seems to bring the fish in.

It might work somewhat, but don't waste you're time.
Just go to the feed store and purchase a 50# bag of wheat and let it sour. Much easier to throw out, works much better and is less expensive.
Good Luck!

Can't reveal my sources, but what I have heard is that the sour milo brings out the bigger cats. Range cubes, unless you bait a hole religiously, only calls out the tiny "scrappers." Keep in mind the structure you are fishing. If you are looking to produce results long term, bait the hole as often as you hit the spot. Just my two cents. Hope this extra tidbit helps out. Steven

My dad used to use soured maize, the stinker it was, the better it worked. He'd always go by one of the local feed mills and they'd give him all he wanted of the waste stuff they were going to throw away. Take it home and put it in a bucket with some water and let it sit out in the sun a few days till it was 'just right'. He'd always limit out on catfish, crappie and have a few bass when he'd come home from fishing. And what amazed me was that even the crappie and bass would have some of it in them when we cleaned them. Just be sure to put a cheese cloth over the bucket that you sour it in so the flies don't blow it and fill it full of maggots. The stuff works great.
