Water temp won’t exceed 56 in the afternoons, water is pretty darn clear right now. It will be won with livescope in the 4-10 ft range.

It’s looking like the spinnerbait bite should line up perfect for Christie

The weather here has been up and done, 80 one day, mid 40s the next. Seems to be delaying things for sure. Got another week to start stabilizing, they might hit it perfect.

How much weight are you thinking it will take to win?

Most likely, it'll be same patterns as Fork two weeks ago.

Its that time of year again for the 'Classic Odds' shows. I know BTL does one with Mark and the article is up on bassmaster. I know its dumb, but for us that really enjoy sports betting, the 'odds' make my skin crawl. I think 45 of the 56 anglers on bassmaster have better than 50-1 odds. roflmao ...

68lbs seems kinda high to me but I’m wrong all the time. We weighed in 19.10 on Saturday and 17.95 on Sunday and every fish came out of knee deep water on a spinnerbait. We saw close to 54 degree water each day and each morning started below freezing.

I will be up before the classic to fish and I wasn’t gonna mess with that shallow spinnerbait but I will now!👍😆

I wish it would go down shallow, however with the clear water etc. I see a scoping tournament in prespawn areas. if water was to get dirty I like Hackney. I think most likely won on a jerk bait and Patrick Walters is one of the best at that, however there are several that are equal.

I’d like to see John Cox win it, if Milliken could pull it off it would be worth it alone just to see the Randy crowd go nuts.

Not starting another FFS (right or wrong) debate, but its crazy to think anything other than FFS will win. Since the start of last year, when basically the full field started was running FFS, has Sabine been the only tournament won without it? So what is that 11 of the last 12, and Sabine is the one exception? I would love to see it, but i cant imagine thinking anything else will win.

It’s still a lure in front of a fish- they aren’t all swimming a minnow in 30ft of water. The technique isn’t FFS.

It would be neat to see a young guy win it.

These young guys fish every day. The old guys just show up for tournaments with their yellow spinnerbaits. I think Hamner or Williams will win it.

I’m going to say Cody Huff or Patrick Walters. Good thing about Grand is that usually no one pulls too far away from the field and the last day can be really good.

I’m going to go with a low skilled angler with electronic crutch for the win. It will be like all elite wins in the ffs age, meaningless.

What a clown take. You could take the ffs off and they’d do just as well as the complainers.

I get it, you suck at fishing without a crutch. I don’t necessarily oppose it’s use by those who lack fishing skills, it just doesn’t belong at the “elite” level. Frankly anyone who depends on it to catch fish doesn’t belong either.

Well I’ve never caught a fish on it- but use it to cast to structure. The uneducated keep say how “easy” it is….😆

How many scopers will also do some shallow water fishing or is this technology also used in 2 to 4 feet of water?

I believe that Scott Martin won the first open in Florida fishing shallow with a scope....also believe he broke some sort of record with weight.
Does he count as one of the guys who sucks because he uses/used a scope?

They have been the first few elite tournaments this season

A scoper, shaking a fairy wand for the win. It will be a rare win from the clearer water on the south end. If it rains though that lake can rise 5' overnight and become Oklahoma muddy. Even the Elk. If that happens, I go back to Christie or Palmer.

Weight will be around 65lbs

Scott had the first major tournament win with ffs. FLW at lake Cumberland. IMO Martin was better prior to using it.

When I saw Trey McKinney catch that 7 lber flipping a jig on that dock to secure the win on Fork I am so unknowledgeable about the working of FFS I wasn't sure if he found that fish using it or if he just went in and flipped that dock blind.

I remember making my son quit watching him on YouTube. Guy was cooking jig heads in his oven and airbrushing lacquer paint in basement without a mask on. Is he your hero?

Without a mask? Do you report your neighbors for mowing without safety glasses?

Respirator, sorry. Of course I don’t “report” my neighbors for mowing without safety glasses on. If I knew they were huffing paint and eating lead paint chips I would prevent my kid from associating with them though.

I said earlier in this thread I thought Patrick Walters was the man if it turns into a scoping deal, however I did forget about Milliken. Look if he can get his stuff set up for 3 days he could actually win this thing big. He is the guy that targets big fish and arguably maybe the best at FFS. He also knows what bait to throw to get them to snap. As good as Walters and all these guys are Milliken very well could win this in a blow out if it's a scoping deal..

Is he prepared to set the jack plate, tilt, and trim at the correct launch settings?

I honestly don't understand the hate for Milliken. I kept reading his name here on the forum so finally, after a year or so, I watched one of his videos. Since then I have watched several more. The man can flat out fish. I love the way he throws big swimbaits and fishes for big fish every chance he gets.

His tournament results against some of the best fishermen in the world are impressive.

Btw, I haven't seen him throw a spinnerbait, a chatterbait or a lipless crank yet. That's crazy to me.

You been to drowning in the past few days? Not sure about the rest of the south end but you can’t see a foot deep in there. It’s looks to have turned over. Like I said earlier I don’t think this one is gonna be one scoping. Several big bags being caught in the dirt.

Why would old people's heads blow off? I'm 71 and it wouldn't bother me at all if he wins. I watch his videos and keep up with him all of the time even though his fishing style is totally opposite of mine.

Probably because of all the ignorance you see here. Guys saying it doesn’t require any skill, it’s video game fishing, etc. It’s the same crowd that typically has zero issues ripping fish off beds sight fishing ….

If it is as hard to master as you claim, sure is a lot of ignorant people willing to plop down thousands of dollars for an overpriced spotlight.

I have never fished for bass with it but it is stupid easy fishing for crappie. I don’t see bass fishing any more difficult. Even gribble knows it’s a crutch.

Crappie and bass are a totally different deal. I'm fairly decent with crappie now with it. No expert but I catch them pretty good. Bass is a major work in progress. At 52 my coordination to hold the boat in the wind, find and stay on a fish, get the cast in the right spot etc might not be good enough anymore but it's damn fun trying to learn something new. I have spent a long time dragging c rigs and throwing a spook till my arm cramps up. Change is good. Go chase bass with it and get back to us.

Crappie and Bass behave totally different. If you want to respond you’d look better with some basic info..

Blast off this morning for practice, a lot of boats had a second person in them. Can you have whoever you want or are those marshals/camera guys for practice?

Here is the difference, crappie get in a giant ball and just sit there. Sometimes for months in the same place. Easy to find and once you find them easy ish to catch. Bass are in little groups or solo, they swim all over the place, throw in carp, catfish, and drum which I have a real talent for catching it gets a whole bunch harder. Until you try it you will have no appreciation for the skill these guys have.

Clearly the amount of major tournament wins by relatively unknowns provides more than basic info.

Actually it doesn’t. Your entire premise is because you don’t know who they are then they can’t be good fisherman.

Regardless if it's won shallow or with FFS it's the classic and one fisherman's life is gonna change Sunday afternoon. I personally hope it goes down shallow and a veteran that has never won it like Hackney wins. That would be awesome. However there are so many great fisherman in this thing and any of them could win. I really believe come Sunday morning the guy in 3-5 is going to make a decision to do something different and go bust a a big bag like Howell did on Guntersville or Evers did where they are now, that's what makes this tournament so great. But also a guy like Milliken could find a Mega school and get them all 3 days weigh in 75 lbs. plus and win by 8 or so lbs. Gonna be fun.

Today I can only find them chasing shad pushing them up on a flat off the deep.

I had Cooper Gallant in my Bassmaster Fantasy line-up. He works hard and reads new water really well. Prezekurat is also on my list. These conditions aren't a far stretch for the Northern anglers.

Congrats to a very humble, I think his career could sky rocket from here. My picks sucked to say the least. LOL. The only thing I thought may be true is it would be a jerk bait. I was pulling for the veterans like most ud old guys do, especially Hackney. But in hindsight I think the sport has a great champion and ambassador for the next year.
