Otherwise pretty slow out there. I see spinning rods and young guys getting scope neck...

It’s starting to become BS at this point. I don’t see elite anglers just mediocre fishermen staring at a screen. Some idiot has goggles on!

Since FFS took over, they don't even need camera guys anymore. A pole with a camera in the back catches the entire show.

I'm curious if guys aren't even trying to fish any other way now, or if they try more conventional things in practice and can't get bit doing it. Or they just suck at literally everything but scoping. You can't tell me that on Toledo Bend at the end of February in the middle of a huge warming trend on a full moon that pitching neko rigs and jig headed minnows at suspended fish is the best way to catch a big bag.

I thought the same thing and even picked John Cox to win. Absolutely terrible to watch for me, I pity anyone watching it if you find that entertaining.

Nothing but bucks up shallow…you can’t win it up there ,but I suspect as the weekend gets here some bigs will show up shallow. Question is will any shallow fisherman survive long enough to make a difference.

Sure looks like that will be the case. No good fishing on TBend unless you’re a scoper, everyone change your vacation plans to another lake. hide2

Hackney and Christie both started shallow on camera and caught all the 2lbers they could.

Do you enjoy watching people use FFS in tournaments?

I think most enjoy using it. Just not watching it.

I enjoy the whole game of professional fishing. I enjoy seeing people succeed and be the best they can be while using the tools and techniques that are within the rules. This whole FFS stuff is rather entertaining since there are so many that are butthurt over a sonar unit. I could just imagine al these criers if they had to deal with anything real in life.

FFS doesn't affect most of us, because most of us are not "pro" material. I will continue to chunk my sq bills and swimbaits.

Life is too short to be a bi**h over a sonar unit.

Is the guy leading the tournament the one with several graphs and transducers? If he pulls off the win it will be the beginning of the end for ffs.

I like watching the tournaments more now, since they are showing live graphs shots. Actually like it more now, than when they were just randomly throwing at nothing all day.

Fair. Everyone has their particular flavor. I never enjoyed watching the offshore events either and this is similar. Guess they can’t all be top water and shallow cover events.

I will say that the best tournament that I’ve watched, was when Livesay was busting the big ones on spooks at Fork. Unfortunately, those are so rare.

By my best guess, 90% of the top 25 twenty pound bags were caught by scopers. I like watching the live coverage if they are showing their graphs.

Clark Wendtland- maybe I mis spelled his name, he sounded like a whiny Randy Blaukat on the stage.

The next few years will push many of the bank chunkers and "older" anglers off the Elites. Every year now there will be a new crop of young, hungry and technologically proficient EQ qualifiers. No more Bill that works at the Autozone qualifying in his region in 3 tourneys.

Times are changing and I am here for it.

Helps that a lot of them have the 22" graphs. You can actually see what they're looking at.

Lot of the field complained about the wind yesterday. Today it's not supposed to blow over 12 mph. It should be interesting behind this weak front.

Helps that a lot of them have the 22" graphs. You can actually see what they're looking at.

You do realize what you are seeing on the stream is not the camera view of the graphs?

They actually are streaming straight off the graphs. The camera views of graphs are not that great.

So for you scope haters considering how bad the shallow guys are doing with that water to themselves at least yesterday would you be having a better time watching pros practice casting with spinner baits....

Man I didn't get that impression at all... Just sounded like talking about a day of fishing. Why do you think he was whining...he just said he wasn't scoping.

It seems that those in favor of ffs in professional fishing are overly sensitive. Clearly it is advantageous to use it and it appears that the more units you use, the more benefits. Dirt racing you have classes, limited, unlimited, etc, should fishing go this route?

You can bet a lot of older anglers are going to start offering their opinions more often as the younger crowd starts dominating.

Yeah, I can’t see that, he was running livescope way before it was ever on the market.

Don’t know about that. Scott Martin beat him using it on Lake Cumberland FLW. If Wendlant had it then, 2017 I believe he sure wasn’t using it.

Apparently he didn’t trust it. Scott beat him with it in the first major bass tournament win I remember.

8 out the top 9 qualifiers from the '23 Bass Opens EQ made it to day 3 of their first event. That is pretty impressive. Also Tim Dube qualified via the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship and also made the cut.

Times are changing on the Elite Series, it's just a matter of time before the Opens and Toyotas are full of the olds.

Someone should start a "dead pool" for the Old BASS Elite angler's careers

The olds aren't gonna hang there either. The scope crowd dominate those too.

Maybe a senior tour ran by Randy where they could all sit around the fire and talk about how good they used to be…

Or talk about how they didn’t need crutches to catch fish. It’s time for elites to drop the “elite” moniker. Zero skill is involved and natural talent is useless against ridiculous electronics.

I have to agree. I also really enjoy and am addicted as can be on FFS technology. Im late to the game and only started using it last year but have gone completely all in at learning as much as I can with as much time on the water behind the screen as possible. But to get back to your point it is really boring to watch from a viewership standpoint. Besides my last trip when they were in the dirt I cant tell you the last time I caught a bass that I didn't watch swim up to eat it and also have a general knowledge if it was going to be a good one or a dink before I felt the bite. Times have changed. Its weird. We went full circle to people now dominating with computer screens and crappie jigs LOL. Wild.

Needs to catch a couple DDs and weigh 30+ today or tomorrow to have a real chance.

He also sand bags on bass track unlike Zaldain who showed 20 yesterday and drops 17 on the scales. Heads will explode if he makes a comeback. A lot of people said going into the elites that a lot of elites are just as good as him at FFS and he's just middle of the pack. I think they were incorrect. Im a fan. The guy can catch em.

I haven't been over there recently, but I'd have to assume that with all the water the past couple of weeks coming in there that north of Hwy 6 has got to be stained at best and muddy more than likely the further north you go. Tough for a bass to see a 3" minnow bait in that kind of water.

Watching Gee weaving around like a drunk scoping for fish, then seeing the live screen shot of him dropping on and catching a nice suspended fish on FFS was kinda cool.

I will never disagree that FFS is horrible to watch. I am just having a hard time figureing out why it's dominatiing. These offshore fish were the great unknown - I get that. They were not, for the most part being caught before. But there were a LOT of 20 pound plus bags and a few Century belts won before FFS. Where are those fish and anglers now? I can't believe that they all moved offshore. I understand why it dominates on the smallmouth fisheries but scratching my head on the rest.

The bank guys were pondering the same thing and several have said, “it completely disproves everything that we have ever thought”.

Those fish are still there BUT when 80 out of 100 are scoping the odds of those 20 finding that mother load or pattern is slim. Just basic odds.

It’s because the good fisherman catching them on the bank are now catching them offshore.

They all have it or can have it. Plenty of skill required using the FFS. They have put in countless hours getting great at using FSS. It really requires more skill it’s just with the electronics. If it required less then everyone using it would benefit. You still have to out perform the other guy. That’s as difficult as it’s always been. They have always had to adapt over the years whether it was baits, boats or electronics. Fail to adapt and you likely aren't in the Elites anymore.

The playing field just got wider. They can target fish running around in the middle of nowhere.

It’s about as interesting as anything else on Live with the exception of topwater when they are catching them on it or an active chunk and wind bite.

Fujita on day 3 and Milliken on 3-4 were the only two I witnessed anywhere else.

Don’t know question - do they release the bass near weigh-in or scatter to other areas?

IIRC they release at two different spots... or maybe it's two different release boats. Not directly at the ramp/weight in area, but not sure how far away either.
