 Rainbow Trout Pending Water Body Record!

Had the privilege to watch an angler catch a very nice Rainbow Trout while fishing a pond in Live Oak. Being a certified weigh station for Texas Parks & Wildlife I weighed the angler's fish. The fish was 14.25" in length and the certified weight of the fish was 1.25 lbs. The current record Rainbow Trout for Live Oak City is 1.04 lbs. which was set in 2021. Paper work will be sent to the Texas Parks & Wildlife for their review. Getting to watch a catch of a record Rainbow Trout. It just don't get any better. Over the years I have talked with a lot of anglers who have never heard about the Anglers Recognition Program of the Texas Parks & Wildlife and how to apply for a water body record. My scale is portable and I love to weigh potential record fish. Mr. Spaulding was excited when he caught the fish and became very excited knowing he was holding a record fish. Texas Parks & Wildlife has the best program by far when it comes to water body and state records. Texas Parks & Wildlife is a great agency. You Sir are an ASSET to the program as well and you share your knowledge on catching record fish both in fresh and salt water. Keep living the dream and enjoying the GREAT OUTDOORS!

Is that a stocked fish from prior years or did they stock one that big? That fish was stocked this stocking season. The only trout that survive year around are the ones stocked at the Canyon Trail Race, Guadalupe River. The water stays cold year around and you can catch trout year around from the trail race to just above Rio Raft. Side Note: Trout unlimited stock trophy Rainbow Trout in the "Trophy Zone" of the Guadalupe River. There are laws posted on the TPW web site that TPW strictly enforces on trout caught in the trophy zone . Anglers are catching 2 to 4 lb. Rainbow Trout throughout the winter and during the rest of the year below the trail race.
