It has been a while since I kept a vehicle for several years after replacing the OEM battery. My batterry is the best that Auto Zone sells and 4 years old. I am thinking that provided it makes it to 5 years it gets replaced just for piece of mind.

you can buy a load tester for about 40.00 and use it to get the most out of them, should pay for itself if you can get another yr. or so from one.

I’ve got a 9 year old optima in my truck. It’s a Blue 27 marine battery. It was in the boat for 5 years and couldn’t run all the electronics all day in the boat. I put it in the truck and it’s been good for 4 years now. Doesn’t fit for [censored]. I have it mounted on its side and backwards to get the cables to connect.

Don’t overthink it. Most batteries will give you some signs when it’s starting to go. I say most, because the factory Toyota battery was 100% one morning, then 5 miles down the road, it was totally dead. Like it didn’t even exist. I could have shorter the terminals and it wouldn’t have made the faintest spark. Just dead and gone.

That is the way the Tundra batterry went. I came home from work backed up to hook up the boat and totally dead. No slow starts or any warning. At least when I had my Tacoma I got a slow crank one day and knew it was time. Hopefully the Auto Zone batterry gives some warning and not while I am at the deer lease.

Mine was a tundra battery too. Our battery guy that comes by the shop said the lead in these factory batteries is of a kind that catastrophic failure is more likely than dying of age. He was right. Mine had a major internal failure. Plates broke or something.

I bet you’ll be fine with that regular ol battery for a while yet. No need to spend good money.

Batteries are most likely to show their weakness when it gets cold.

I usually replace every 2-3 years regardless.

OEM batteries seem to to be pretty carpy. I had a Ford battery kick the bucket at 9 months. Fortunately it died when I was at the boat ramp and I had 2 strong batteries in the boat. The only problem was that year Ford required a low profile battery. I put something over the posts and did not close the hood completely. Short drive home and made it with no problem.

Same^^^^
Usually replace a short time after the warranty expires, which many batteries I've owned haven't made it that long! (O'Reilly's Super Starts)

my factory battery was warrantied about 6 mo after I got the truck, replaced at 5 yo with another fomoco from the dealer and about time to change again.

about to go to agm from wally world, 4 yr. replacement warranty and only about 170.00 which is less than a dealer installed factory replacement.

I bought a 2007 Tundra and drove it for 10 years on the oem battery. Replaced it with another oem battery just because I was worried it would leave me stranded. No signs of being weak. I sold it to son in law 2017 and he is driving it today with the second oem battery. Go figure!!!

I had the battery quit on my 2018 Silverado yesterday. Missed a Dr. appointment because of it. It was fine when I parked it the night before. I charged the old battery enough to get to Walmart where they put in a $190 battery. I was surprised at the price.

Were you expecting battery prices to escape Bidenomics

WalMart was my first stop when the OEM battery in my Tundra died. The posts on Tundras are opposite from most vehicles. All they had was a group 24. I asked the guy if they had any 27s or 31s. He said they quit carrying them in the post configuration I needed. I figured they quit carrying because the average person that goes to WalMart is looking for the cheapest option.
