Nutsedge sucks. I am losing the war. Last year I applied Sedgehammer. One application in the spring, I thought things were golden. It turned all the sedge yellow for a few weeks, but then it came right back with a vengeance. Later in the summer I did two more applications a few weeks apart to no effect.

Two weeks ago I sprayed Image. The nutsedge again is yellowing, but I don't want to repeat last year's failure.

Do I go back with another app of Image? Do I spray an app of sedgehammer so to have two different active ingredients at play? Do I hit it with both?

Or do I burn it all down and start over?

Image is pretty slow to work. Probably be another 2 weeks and the sedge sprayed should die. I like to save image for summer time. You can go back with hammer. It’s pretty slow too. You might try Sedge Ender now with the temps overall not too hot. It's Sulfentrazone and should work well for you.

Several years ago we had a garden that was overrun by nutsedge, I gave up the fight and ended up tearing it all out and leveling the garden soil out for a lawn area. The bermuda took over quickly and the nutsedge disappeared. I read that improving the soil will get rid of it, I'm thinking that was the case by spreading the garden soil out and letting the bermuda take over.

The bad soil tracks with my yard. Builders in my hood just rolled out sod right over the clay - barely even leveled it. I’ve been spreading some topsoil each year to level things out, but probably not enough to make a dent in the overall quality.

I have had good luck with Image in the yard. The first time I used it I got the same results that you did. I went back and read the instructions again and I missed the part about watering it in to get the chemicals into the ground. Once I started doing that, I have killed most all of it.

Now I have 2 neighbors that have gardens and give us fresh vegetables for watering when they are gone. Good deal for both of us.

Well I did a 2nd app of Image 4 days ago. After the 2nd spray, several spots where the nutsedge was yellow is now brown and crispy. Most of the spots where the sedge was still green, it is now yellowing.

Hopefully this is the end of it. I'll give it to the end of the month, then start in on whatever is left with Sedgehammer.

The way the water drains from my neighbors my backyard stays pretty moist during spring and I get a lot of sedge back there every year. I'm going to let it go another week or so and spray it. My front drains great and I get almost none there.

Okay, bumping this thread again. I’ve gone from about 80% of the yard splatter painted with nutsedge, to just a few clumps here and there. While I am happy with the progress, I won’t be satisfied with anything less than total annihilation.

Does the heat affect the efficacy of either Image or Sedgehammer?

Heat won't bother either. No temp restrictions on either. You've already applied 2 apps of Image so you're probably at your yearly max rate. Go with Sedgehammer. It's a very safe product. Sedge has been really bad this year. You might look at applying Sedge Ender (Sulfentrazone) early next spring as it's really the only known pre emergent for sedge and save your Image/Sedgehammer apps for summer. Sedge will be a never ending battle.

Sedgehammer takes a month to fully work. It is almost gone over here now.

Mine too. It just takes a minute to see the results. I'm spot spraying when I see it and over the last month or so have seen good results. PITA though.

Good to know the results are quick. I have applied Image and want to go back and spot treat a few areas, so I will get some Sedgehammer and give it a try.

Results aren't quick. "takes a minute" is a figure of speech meaning it takes a while.
