Manners and respect seem to have all but gone out the window as well.

It's not just the kids... This is a SERIOUS problem with all ages here in Texas... Just look around you on the streets, it's not just the 20 something crowd that's cutting you off, nearly running you off the road, or trying to swamp your boat on the lake... I had a 50+ year old idiot in a sailboat within 10 feet of my bass tracker, and then a 40 something idiot in a 30+ foot cruiser nearly knock me off the boat in the same day...

One thing I've noticed in Texas is that courtesy and manners is lacking across the board, not just the kids.

Maybe next time I'm in a boat I'll reconsider packing my Sig Sauer 9mm plus two 20 round clips for a grand total of 56 rounds of Cor-Bon 9mm hollow points. Because if some wacko came at me and my kids I'd only be thinking about my kids and I'd have opened up! Personally I think people in a situation like that should be let completely off for letting a few go downrange but with the way things are today I'd have gone to prison. Even Christians believe in self defense. Especially defense of family.

Good luck in even remembering you have a firearm in a situation like that. The guy who's boat was hit barely got a basic description of the boat and he was actually there. I doubt he was thinking of much more than just protecting his kids, let alone having the mental power to think about pulling a gun and firing...

The guy who left his kid in the car, got zero prison time and zero jail time. It happened last year in carrollton. He just got sentenced last month and has to serve 400 hrs of community service and pay a very small fine. I bet the kids life insurance cover the fine.

I guess the point is, mistakes happen. It is what people do after the mistake to make sure it never happens again and to attempt to make things right.

The law is not on the victims side.

MODERATORS, can we close this thing up. This post started as a "Call to Action" for all TFF'ers. The Tff'ers went out looking, got this thing done, and now justice is being served. It does no good to anyone to contemplate the "Justice/Revenge" that would've been meeted out "Had it happened to me and my kids".

The true meaning of the original post has been lost. The outcome that we all hoped for has been lost. The outcome for Peetrav and his Family (miracle, to say the least) has been lost.

Let us not ponder on about what "I'd have done this with my...". I've kept up with this post since it started, watched it through all of the people that were looking, and thanked the Lord when the culprits wre found and brought to Justice. The power of this Forum has been proven. Instead of wasting it on typing on about "Who I'd shoot with my 30-06 if they did this......" why don't we get together and petition the powers that be about a MANDATORY BOATER'S SAFETY COURSE.

We've proven that this course of action works. Let's put this power towards something useful.

I promise you can see what's in front of the boat while surfing. A properly weighted boat for surfing will not impair driver vision.

And a properly driven boat won't run over anybody but we all know that NEVER happens in the real world. You also assume that everybody that has a boat knows how to operate it the right way. just my opnion...Jim

Thank you TXTAC!

PROVERBS, nice response.

It's a shame that this happened. I've seen & heard some messed up stuff in my profession too. I understand your passionate about protecting those you love. I think most people just thought "56 rounds...downrange" was excessive. I don't know how you could get a speedboat's attention if they were about to collide with you. Air horn maybe? Killing people doesn't seem productive. Would you unload a couple clips if a car was about to hit yours? I highly doubt it, what makes it a better alternative on the water?

I think the real issue here is that accidents like these happen too often. People are careless sometimes. WHAT ANGERS ME IS THAT THESE PEOPLE CHOSE TO "HIT AND RUN" RATHER THAN STEP UP AND OFFER AID.

Just B,
I thank you for the advice. I have let them do their own thing and this past weekend they went to Tawakoni with me for some nite time catfish. They were fine and had a good time. We took out the Skeeter this time and I think the bigger boat helped them feel safer.
Still waiting on a court date for this whole mess, in the mean time I still get out on the lake either for work or my time. Got the cast off and a clean bill of health!

thanks all!

Awesome!!! Keep us posted. I am sure I speak for the crew here at TFF that we are interested to hear how it turns out relative to our legal system.

Peace to you and your family!

This post and the stories of rude boating remind me of what I keep telling my friends/family about our recent vacation to New York and D.C. - Everyone in those cities were so friendly and helpful. I love Texas but overall the average person in this city/state is completely oblivious to those around them. Keep posting these stories so that I will always remember why I don't need/want a boat.

Isn't that because of all the transplants moving here from California, Arizona and the west coast, and the NorthEast and MidWest because of the lower cost of living?

I know the people that ran me out of my last neighborhood were all transplants and didn't like the Texan living like a Texan and enjoying the Lakes and Land and the great outdoors that I grew up loving so much and plan to show my kids as they grow up.

I bet that the owner of this boat had at least $100,000 liability coverage, bare minimum. I would think that being able to afford this type of wake-board boat that he would be in a personal financial position to also have Umbrella Liability coverage, usually one million, or more. If boat insurance is like auto then the coverage is on the boat owner, not necessarily the driver.

This case will be a “cake walk” for any lawyer. Even after the 40% cut for the attorney, I bet you will do OK!

I'm so glad you & your kids are doing well! Maybe you'll get a settlement out of this that can put them through college too!

Peejtrav32,

This is the best thread I've read in 4 years in here! I'm very happy your family is alright, and I'm amazed and excited at the way this has all come together--absolutely amazing!

Court is set for August 15 & the kid is out on bail. The dad wanted to settle out of court (offered a hefty amount) but my lawyer recomends we take it all the way. I don't have a problem with that. The other two kids have charges against them also & have a different court date. It will be interesting to see what happens. There are several charges going on this including fleeing the seen!
