Thursday 30th , Caught a few specks at night with live shrimp but very little tidal movement .Caught the biggest whiting I ever saw ...could not hold it across it back with one hand . Saw a few jacks landed and a few sharks but not many people fishing ...

The largest fish I've ever caught is a 14lb bass. So I would really love to hook in to a bull red, black drum, or black tip. Im pretty new when it comes to this so I would appreciate any suggestions to help break my all-water weight record!!

Use any cut bait. I usually pick up a lb or two of shad at a bait shop. My leader is about 3 to 4 feet. I put a 8 oz spider weight in the middle and a 6 to 10 hook on the bottom. Let the weight slide.

If fishing off the beach cast into the guts (where the waves are not breaking, calm water). Same with the Jettys.

I usually fish the end of the 91st street pier. Just cast as far off the end as I can.

I will be down there tonight but I think I am going to go to San Luis pass pier. Usually wear a Sandals resort hat (only hat i do not care about).

Good Luck and let us know how you do. If you are a Longhorn you might not want to take my advice as I am a Red Raider. Just Joking.

Looking at where you caught your fish your are familiar with Lubbock?

I went to the 91st St. Pier Thursday night and it was awful!!! I fished from midnight till 6AM and didnt catch anything!! It was the first time thats ever happened to me out there. The wind was blowing 20-30 and water was actually splashing up on the pier occasionally. By 4:00, I believe I was the only soul on the pier. Only saw one fish caught while I was there and that was a 3 ft. black tip. Did see a gigantic sea turtle get snagged. Anyways, there is always tomorrow! Ljharris - I graduated from Tech last year and am now at UT for grad school.

I got skunked also friday night. Caught lots of hardheads and I think they were eating all my big baits. Oh well that is why they call it fishing and not catching. Better luck to all next weekend.

Must not be a fun drive from Austin. Comming from austin you might try out the Rockport area. I have heard lots of good things about that area.

Finally got a salt line wet for the first time in over 10 years up at Apffel park. Tried a gold spoon in the surf but didn't get any action. Talked to a surf fisher and he caught two groupers and some hard heads on shrimp.

Moved to the ship channel by the old dike and fished a spoon with no luck. Changed to a very old popper rig with some gulp shrimp and landed 3 croaker. Hooked up a croaker and free lined him for about 15 minutes but the wife and kids were ready to head home. All in all I only fished for about 2 hours but had some fun.

Well you sure are a Debbie Downer!! I hope this water clears up a little by tomorrow night. If anyone on this thread plans on heading out to the pier Tuesday night, let me know and I'll look for ya. Thanks for the reply bob.

Last night the wind was blowing 30-40 on the pier. So much for the forecast that predicted 10-15. Also, it was impossible to fish because of the large amounts of seaweed that kept finding its way wrapped around my line. Got shutout for the 2nd time in a row!!! I'll be back. Went out on the New Buccaneer this morning as well. Only thing biting was snapper...

try a charter if you have the funds - most are around $70-90. they usually have everything for you.
