You boys are getting to technical for me.

Tell me, why do advise against using a net? Not that I ever would use one (seems like cheating to me), but I am just curious.

Nets have their place when landing big fish. I prefer the
rubber mesh nets, they are not abrasive!

Nets can damage scales, and also the slime coating on fish.

Tony and Lane really know what they are doing. They have dedicated themselves to developing some of the best products on the market for fish care.

Oxygen systems are ideal, but can be a big fire hazzard if not handled correctly and you definately don't want to be in a boat that has an oxygen leak and then a spark added. Tends to quite an exposive situation.

Hydrogen peroxide in small 2-3% dosage works really well. So if you have a question about proper fish care, listen to the people who make their living from trying to make products that insures the safety and live release of the fish that form the backbone of our beloved sport.

I taught fish handling when I was the Angler Education Coordinator for TPW and emphasized the proper handling and wetting of hands prior to fishing and again once a fish was hooked.

For all those who want bass or other fish to eat regardless of size and as long as they are legal, there's no reason to use the steps and some of those may be pictures that folks are posting and not releasing. You have to give the benefit of the doubt. I have seen it and witnessed what everyone is talking about with the tournaments and TV shows, they are guilty of it for sure. Yep, I use a rubber landing net...it's a whole lot easier on the fish and doesn't tangle at all.

Breambuster, sotty when I see pics from a guide, I can almost count on a release, so no benefit of doubt from me any how... but thanks for that view.

I reckon because not all of us get the opportunity to view all the postings when they go up, and responded or give an opinion, we get comments like your reply. Do we need to ask permission to respond now?

breambuster.... I am not out to keep you from speaking.. say what you want it is a free country, but if you don't expect a post in return... I don't post n this forum to get into arguemnts, that being said, I am done.. if you want to continue on .... so be it.

I'm with you about Bill Dance: Not only does he hold big fish by the lip, he pops the jaw wide open which looks very disturbing.

With that said, I think someone tried to make the comparison between fish and humans being held by the jaw. (That was almost a PETA type comment ) Human heads are a small percentage of our total weight thus creating a strong downward force on a small surface area but a bass, or other fish, it is a much larger percentage resulting in much less downward force.
