You're right, we shouldn't complain as they take our lakes from us as long as they leave a couple for us to put a boat on. Don't whine either as they take our hiways from us, sell them to a foreign country and charge us to drive on them. Squaw Creek was never "your's" to begin with. It was built, owned and maintained by TXU. It is their private property to do as they please. GET A LIFE WHINERS No one ever said the lake was ours. The arguement is keeping the public away from something that the taxpayers paid for. Go sip your little TU Kool-aid. If you don't like the whining, read something else.

Taxpayers did not pay for Squaw Creek. If want to debate get your facts straight.

Maybe i will build a lake on my land and tell TPWD that it will be open to the public. I will then use all the state resources and taxpayer money to stock it and get it the way I want it. Then I will slam the door shut, just the way TXU did. Sounds real fair doesn't it.

Zipper, This may be a bit of a stretch but wasn't Squaw Creek reservoir "built" from Squaw Creek(public creek) being dammed up? Wouldn't that, at least make it partly "ours"?

I went out there last year and fished from the bank--about the most fun you can have from the bank. I doubt there are any living hybrids there anymore and they used to have walleye there years ago but they are probably all gone too. We did catch a ton of nice catfish and black bass--good eatin!

Squaw Creek should be opened to the public. There is no debate. The lake was stocked with public funds and, I believe, continues to be. Public funds means public access.

Well i know nothing about the lake but i can tell you this. You payed for the stocking of the fish in the lake so therefor you have some right to gripe about it ! I am not a big TP&W fan becuase they make alot of stuff up as they go along but TXU is not a state agency so what right do they have to close it or let there people fish or say what ever ? I do not think they can write you a ticket for fishing, if they do you have not broke any laws therefor you cannot be fined, unless they get youfor no trespassing !! I do know this is true ! We have a problem here at Lake Fork that is not right and there is a petition to change the no wake rule that was put up by the SRA which has no right to put them up. Keep the petition going to fish the fish you payed for and maybe you will find a lawyer that has a heart that is not in it for the money and he can find the loop holes !! Good Luck !!

Golden Algae concern was not brought up by a TXU Rep. Was brought up because I live less than 5 minutes from the ramp on the lake and hate I can't fish it as much as the next guy. I could care less about the "Debate." The property is owned by TXU and that is a fact. They have the keys to the gate and I doubt the tumblers will ever be turned to let H R Public back in as before. Pleanty of prime fishing water close by that I enjoy.

The lake was stocked with public funds and, I believe, continues to be. Really? Where is the proof of this "continued stocking"?

It is amazing that idiots keep reading and posting on this issue. This post is a FIVE YEAR OLD DEAD HORSE.
Squaw Creek was a decent lake when we fished it during the nineties, some days were good other days were bad, just like most lakes. For those that never fished it go to lost creek it has the same type of structure.
Fish have NOT been stocked in Squaw Creek for TEN YEARS. Those that were stocked have died from old age.
Oh and if you did not get it, I am an Idiot TOO.

Are there any feeder creeks or any that flow out of Squaw that can be fished from the bank or by float tube?

Yes there is: Take County road 202 off of Hwy 144. There are two entrances for CR.202 . They are both accessed from Hwy 144. This is off the top of my head. From Glen Rose take Hwy 144 toward Granbury. CR. 202 is about 1 or 2 miles down the road, on the left. Find the low water crossing, & you are there.

WIth TXU in the process of being sold, does anyone think that the new owners would consider reopening the lake? They could probably make some good money treating it like a hunting lease and limiting the number of people that would be able to fish it.
