Where is your favorite Mexican food place in Texas ! I have a few around the state but i what to hear of some new ones i haven't been to...yet.

I'll say that Gomez has a fine breakfast. Although, Mi Familia (I think) in Early -just the other side of town- is much better for dinner. However, that's only an opinion.


It's hard to say favorite when it comes to Mexican food because it's all so different.

La Familia in Early burned down. Have they rebuilt?

Ciro's, in Weslaco TX, but you may need angioplasty after you leave.

El Potosino in Galena Park and Apache in Galveston.

When in Del Rio, it's hard to beat Marcellino's, Pancho's or Carmelita's. All three are great!

I've heard some dissenting opinions on this, as there was a thread not too long ago. Everyone likes the hometown place, but seriously, Trevinos in Rockwall really is a very good place. It's not traditional but it's still excellent in my opinion.

The problem with Mexican food places that I've found is that they're not normally around very long. It's hard for me to think back and remember *the good ol' place*. I mean, buffet style -Lupe's on Industrial in Dallas used to be fairly good. Matt's Rancho -if you call it true Mexican food- used to be good. El Taquito on East Grand was fairly tasty...

What kind of place are you looking for?

In Brownwood, Ricardos is very good for breakfast. This guiso tacos were excellent.

On that same note, Pepe's E Mito's in Deep Ellum always had a very good guiso, too.

Beto's in Grand Prairie is the best place I have found since I have moved to the metromess. It is @ I-20 and great southwest pky... best hot sauce and the ol' fashion enchiladas cant be beat!!!

Looks like I found some new good places!!!

In Del Rio we ate at a place down on the river in town... can't remember it right now... it was fair.

In Ft. Stockton, hit Sarah's... off of downtown area right before a neighbor area...looks like a major hole in the wall.... good stuff!!

In Alpine, try La Casita... it is behind the football field in a house... hence the name... good stuff also!!

For authentic Mexican vs. Tex-mex you can't go wrong with Gonzales' on in Pleasant Grove (Buckner and Bruton I believe). They have a second location off of Jefferson in Oak Cliff but I think the one in PG is better.

The best place that I've ever had authentic Mexican cuisine was in Whitney Texas at Monte's family across fro Brookshire's on 933! Their food is EXCELLENT, their prices cannot be beat anywhere!! My wife & I ate there Monday night, we had chicken sour cream enchilladas, chips a side order of sliced avocada, 2 teas & the bill was a whopping $12.88!!!!! The plate had 3 enchilladas, rice & homestyle pinto beans!!!I've eaten all over the bottom 13 states when I was trucking & there is not any better out there that I've been to!

I vote for El Paseo (Ft worth, azle, mineral wells). Family owned with the best food and service in the state.

Not in Texas but awfully close. Head out of El Paso to Las Cruces, NM and go to "Old Mesilla". Sunday brunch at the Eagle or any mexican food restaurant. Outstanding.

El Paso to Las Cruces!!!! My mom lives in Cruces. In El Paso all of the smaller "hole in the wall" places good. None of this tex mex junk. I work at a "Tex Mex" place and nothing compares to those places. I remember the Burrito house close to Bassstt Center and getting 15-20 for the staff. Mole, relleno, carne desebrada you name it. Most were $1.00 each. One heck of a deal.
PLUS... My mom is from Mexico. She could turn leftover lawn trimmings into feast. All our neighborhood friends would come over and always ask what she was cooking.

I have various places for certian things.

Ramero's Las Brazas for pozole.
El Fenix for general tex-mex.
Gringo's for chicken enchillada's.
Baladeras for tamales.
Los Cucos for huevos rancheros.

I haven't found on place that does it all the best. I'll keep looking though knowing I'll never find it.

Cristina's in Lewisville is our all-around favorite. They have perfect salsa, great chimichangas and cheese enchiladas, and the margaritas are the best I've ever had. They also have a big grill platter thingie with ribs, fajitas and shrimp "for 2" that actually feeds the 2 of us twice. The food is consistent and the service is good without being overly helpful and annoying.

Same goes for Pepper's in Alamagordo, NM. The best red enchilladas on the face of the Earth. None better in my opinion.
