I realize that there's a veterans day thread running, but this just hit me and seemed to deserve its own thread:

Armistice Day - the official end of World War 1 - was 100 years ago today. America's last doughboy, Frank Buckles, died just a few years ago.

Agreed. Seems the allies didnt believe that Germany was going to surrender, and werent risking giving up any ground to them by ceasing fire early. Ive read that at a minimum, 1,000 allied lives could have been saved by slow rolling ops that day.

So you can actually hear the end of the war. Sort of. 6 sound graphs were in use that were monitoring gun blasts on the field at 10:58 am on the 11th month of the 11th day 1918. To be very clear, the sound graphs are real and they actually do show the guns going silent in the link below. However, the actual audio you hear was recreated. In any case this gave me chills.
