It doesn't matter if you're old school or new school. You still have to fish the fish. They change every year on spots and the way they set up on spots. I don't see a difference in tournaments between the two groups. Its who does their homework and executes on game day. Other than that there's no difference.

I don't even put youtubers in a class of "fisherman" anymore. They are only for entertainment.

Probably WHY you fish.

I know I fish because I enjoy it and its fun competition beteeen local guys in tourneys. I think the young crowd idolizes the tubers and the cool factor of the lifestyle.

Coming from a "new school" I fish because I grew up fishing with my grandparents. It was my favorite thing to do as a kid, they only thing that has changed is the amount of money I spend on it now. 90% of the youtubers are ridiculous and appeal to people in their teens or people who don't know any better.

The biggest difference I have ran into between "old" and "new" school anglers is respect on the water.

Old School- Fish for peace and relaxation. Catch a big fish and they keep it quiet so no one else will find their spot.

New School- GoPro for posting videos to tell everyone how great they are and posting every "SAL" they catch by the new standards with all the stupid antics that go with it.

Old school simple. Stand in a stream and forget to cast. Just take it in and breath. Bank fish and nap in your comfy chair. The fish dont matter as much as the fishin.

One difference that hasn't been mentioned involves inflation and the extremely high cost of boats, outboards, and tackle. I'm sure that I'm not the only old timer who is appalled at what things cost these days. Now that I don't fish tournaments anymore, I have no need for the "latest and greatest." Don't misunderstand - I'm not knocking tournament fishermen, modern electronics, or the biggest bass boat on the water. I don't use a flasher anymore, and I use some pretty expensive rods, reels, and lures. I simply am unwilling to pay almost 4 times as much for a fishing rig as I did for my first home.

I totally agree with this comment. I'm old and regardless of age, you still have to fish the fish. Time on the water and knowing the seasonal patterns will greatly help any angler. What I will say about getting older, I no longer have the stamina I used to have. My mind tends drift off a few minutes here and there while fishing. Work, do I have enough in retirement, the kids, etc. seem to creep into my mind while fishing. When I catch myself doing this, I try to shift gears back to focusing on the task at hand. The older I get, the more this becomes a challenge for me. Older folks have too many things they think about while fishing. Young fisherman do not have that much baggage to think about. It gets in the way and can turn what could be a good day of fishing into a bad day if you do not focus. To sum up my personal experience, yeah this older man would have to focus a hell of a lot more.

when I was younger --- it was all about how many , how big , never give up attitude .
Now I am old school , I just enjoy the day and if I do good with size and/or numbers , it's a bonus ----both are fun .
I will add my old school version is way more tolerant at the boat ramp

I think New School will run and gun all day long , fish in a area - no fish haul A$$ to another and another . Constantly moving , fishing , searching . Use the equipment to the max on every trip on water , Im good for about 4 hrs in early a.m. then Im in lunch bag .

The biggest thing I see and yes Im old school is the new school will go NO MATTER what the weather conditions are and the old guys will wait for better weather, I guess we are not as mad at them as we used to be, but it really doesnt matter get out when you can and enjoy the day ,,,, life is short so being on the water is a great way to enjoy your day no matter what age you are.

If it was easy, everyone would do it
