I need to update my old Milwaukee cordless set. Currently have a hammer drill and sawzall. Love them but they are almost 20 years old. Would like to poll you geniuses as to brand and experience. Not concerned about cost at this point. As always, thanks playing along.
LET’S GO BRANDON!!!

Last year I upgraded my cordless tools, and went with DeWalt again. I have a few Milwaukee items in the mix, and both brands are good. I didnt go to a big box store and get the price point tools they have. You can find the better stuff at hardware stores and other places, but they wont be cheap. It may or may not matter to you depending on how much use they will see.

I picked other. I have the 20v Dewalt Max but I've also heard the Milwaukee fuel M18 tools are great, maybe better. I think their current offerings are all brushless.
Look and see which tools the different lines offer.

^^^Best you can buy, IMO. I've had a 14.6 volt drill for about 10 years now. Dewalt is made by black and decker. Milwaukee is pretty good.

My new dewalt 20v drill at work is junk. It's got power and all but it came with small battery packs that dont last no time. All we do is drill a hole every now and then and it will barely make 2 holes before they die. Been like that since new a couple months ago. The battery packs are just to small for 20v

My building at work has undergone major renovations the last two years. Private contractors doing a lot of demolition and remodeling. The most common chargers I'd see lined up in the hallway (like 10+ chargers) were Dewalt, Ridgid, and Milwaukee. Some Bosch and Makita. Never Craftsman, Black & Decker, or Ryobi.

Ive never had good luck with Dewalt battery powered tools. I went with Ridgid for my last set 5 years ago and have been happy.

I have most of the flexvolt tools from Dewalt. I like the interchangeability , on most tools, you can use the 60 volt battery to get super long run times on the 20v tool.

IMO, each brand have excellent tools but none are the best "across the board". For me, Milwaukee Saw-Z-Alls cannot be beat. Mine is ~22 years old and still running strong. For corded drills, Makita. Have run both DeWalt and Makita drills (impact and variable speed) and Makita has outlasted DeWalt. Circular saws, I have Black & Decker Super SawCats in both the 8 1/4" and 7 1/4", Milwaukee worm drive 7 1/4" and a Makita 7 1/4". Both B&D saws are 20+ years old, the Milwaukee is 17-18 years old and the Makita is ~15. The Super Sawcats are HEAVY with large tables, so if doing overhead cutting, they're not your friend. This is where the Makita comes in...light, compact and powerful. My DeWalt 12" compound miter is 20+ years old and has been an absolute workhorse. I bought the Milwaukee M18 cordless drill kit (variable speed drill and impact) last year and have been thoroughly impressed...light-weight and powerful with pretty good battery life. Didn't really need this kit because my old 18V Craftsman drill just won't die but I noticed my Home Depot had mislabeled the price on one small display in the store and I rolled the dice to see if they would honor it and sure enough they did. LOL So I got the kit for ~$40 off regular price.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading

This is the correct answer. If you're not already familiar you might also want to research the difference between brush and brushless drills. Brushless are more expensive but they have a longer battery life and are lighter.

No, major big stores have their vendors make products for them to sell at certain prices. They are not the same models you see else where. I have seen them for sale from bigger stores thru their on-line deal, but never on the floor. They do this for many products like home appliances as well.

Ryobi is one of the best. I got started using the brand about 10 years ago and have amasseed quite a collection of their 18 volt stuff. Really like thew common battery use. Also bought a Ryobi garage door opener and really love it.The only bad thing to say is the color of the tools is kinda weird.

Excellent! Thank you for the insight. Keep it coming. To answer a few questions-
I am likely to buy brushless. Yes, the satisfaction of my current 29 yr old Milwaukee says BUY MILWAUKEE. Just want to know if other brands may be better (will be spending some $$). Makita has a great reputation from what I recall 20 years ago, but I didnt see a strong Makita offering against other top brands Ryobi was excluded on purpose. I am also a Bosch guy. Bought a badarse oscillating saw 6 months ago. Was $$$$ but worth every penny.

I own Snap On cordless stuff. Lots of it. Saying that, I also own Bosch 1580EVS saws and a handful of Bosch routers. I have had Bosch cordless stuff and Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Makitta. The Milwaukee stuff doesnt hold up in a commercial capacity, the Bosch cordless stuff is a little tougher. Makitta and Dewalt are absolute garbage. Snap On, so far, is the best Ive used. Bosch would be my choice if the stuff you listed. The SnapOn stuff is great, it I have three different sizes of impacts, a drill driver, and a 3/8 drill. This 5 piece set is roughly $2500... so not for the average mechanic or contractor.

Bosch makes a good hammer drill Snap on is nice if you got the money Ryobi is for wimmins Dewalt is the shiznit Porter cable is for one time usage (if that) Milwaukee is meh ... nothing bad to say dewalts better tho Makita , never heard of her
Kind of boils down to how often you will use said tool. The torture and abuse your going to dish out . And last but not least do you make a living off these tools or are you putting a futon from ikea together with your boyfriend .

And like all prior Dewalt tools the 20 volt battery will be obsolete and not work in the newer tools. 9.9 to 14.4 to 18 Volt this is Dewalt weakness

Not for commercial use. I use them around the house, but a lot. Upgrade to a new set of Milwaukee and go team Red. They have the biggest set of cordless tools on the markets and you don't have to buy a different type of battery for them They only have two types 12V and 18V. Go 18V and don't look back. Also shop CPO Milwaukee for great deals and Home Depot for Milwaukee tools and only buy them when they are on sale or in a package deal. I have 6 truck that ran Dewalt for 20 years, I am changing the all over the 18V Milwaukee

I'm a big Milwaukee guy. Something to consider is the parts/repair station around Irving Blvd and Inwood Rd in Dallas. They might have a rebuilt one for a fraction ow what a new one costs. I've had good luck with rebuild power tools from them, and Sears both.

So far I have been running Milwaukee last 2 years and no issues, I have about 10k in cordless, I understand Milwaukee is very easy to deal with

And like all prior Dewalt tools the 20 volt battery will be obsolete and not work in the newer tools. 9.9 to 14.4 to 18 Volt this is Dewalt weakness Untrue, they make an adapter. So you can go from a 14.4 or 9.9 to a 20 volt? Never seen one in my life and I have tons Dewalts Only adapter I see is the 18 to 20, and they look clumbsy and PITA

Thanks RR. Some good input! If you can hold off a couple more weeks, Home Depot will have the lowest price of the year on the Milwaukee tools. Lots of buy one get one free and free batteries. CPO Milwaukee website is another great option and I shop between those, CPO is free shipping and no sales tax, so compare that to Home Depot site. I have purchased about 7k of Milwaukee tools in the last 6 months, and plan on breaking the bank for black friday

I use electric tools every day and Milwaukee hands down for me. Get the good batteries for them and go to work.

You are correct. I've only had the 14.4 and 18 volt in the past. My 14.4's have been long gone so I needed something for my older 18v, that is why I knew about the adapter. I use my DeWalt battery powered tools weekly and they have held up to the work load we put them through. Falling off ladders, decks, roofs, covered in mud, sawdust, concrete, etc. I do own Rigid and Milwakee tools. These three brands are long lasting. Make sure and fill out the warranty card and mail it in once you make a purchase. HD will normally replace them if something happens.

Thanks all for the input. Given the great performance of my current Milwaukee tools, and the good TFF comments, I went with a Milwaukee M18 Fuel combo from Home Depot. Hammer drill, impact, sawzall, 2 batteries and one heck of a tool box. $399 less a 10% military discount.
Thanks again!

Dewalt . Milwaukee, Makita all are very good... we use a lot of Dewalt cordless tools in the aircraft industry. They are very durable and dependable tools.

All of them are good quality tools. They have came a long way in the last 10 years or so. I have dewalt because thats what I started with, but also have buddies that use makita and Milwaukee and they like them. Mine get used everyday and hold up for years

I have the older 18 dewalt for work, it was the best a few years back because everyone had them and if you had a dead battery, you could borrow one while you charged. This is no longer the case. At home I have the ryobi lithium which is good because they are cheap and offer about 50 different tools. They are very low quality, but great for home use. My favorite are my marital 12v drill and drill driver. They are small and powerful. They keep a charge for a long time and I have put together and taken down deer blinds with 1 battery. They are small enough to conceal carry and stay in my computer bag at work. Convenient is the the trump card.
