Last Sunday October 28th, the American Cancer Society and Ray Hubbard Bass Club hosted the Third Annual Fish For A Cure tournament on Lake Ray Hubbard. All proceeds from this tournament go directly to the American Cancer Society for their work helping cancer patients, their families and researching new treatments to help rid the world of this horrible disease. With all the horrible weather we've had in the last couple months, we've been holding our breath for a couple weeks hoping Mother Nature would see her way clear to give us good weather and she showed out for us! Bright sun, temperatures in the low 80's and moderate wind were everything we could ask for. We hoped to top the last two years boat total of 62 and 60 respectively. We did that and then some! 95 boats came out to participate! People came from long distances in every direction to fish and raise money for a great cause. Of course the weather that was so pleasant made Mother Hubbard show her teeth. Current from draining water and blue bird skies made the fishing tough! Someone always catches them however and the team of Mark Everett and Luke Huffman did! They caught a great limit of 19.09 to win going away. We paid out two places for big bass and it was close! The team of Tim Meenan and Greg Willaby had big bass of 8.83 and Bryce Glick and Tanner Spurgin were right behind them with an 8.72! Here are full results and lots of pictures! With 95 boats participating, I obviously won't know everyone's name so feel free to jump in if you see yourself and let us all know!

Our day started at about 4:00AM. Scott Gordon was ready to run registration and RHBC volunteers were ready to get livewells checked, sell shirts, drawing tickets and provide breakfast to our guests

Sunrise on Lake Ray Hubbard. Awesome sight! Thanks to David Mulkey and Tommy Yates for these great on the water pictures! They were taken in the Rush Creek and Three Fingers areas of the lake.

High water provided lots of flooded cover for the anglers

With 95 boats out there, you had a good chance to be fishing close to someone

Good morning!

RHBC Members Dale Rettman and Kelly Millhollon enjoying the morning

Here's Wes and Kristin Carlin from C4 Boat Wraps

Our sponsor banner at weigh in showed the success we had fund raising this year! Love to see all those sponsors! Thanks to all of them!

A crowd started to form in anticipation of seeing some good fish weighed in.

Our on the water photogs basically fun fished, but would have had a decent sack. Here's Tommy with two.

And David with three more

Here's Corey Morris who fished with his Dad Shannon

John Blacksher and Mike LaPoint were one of the first teams to weigh in

One of their fish took the early big bass lead of 5.41

Jason and Lisa Bell from RHBC. Their daughter Jaysa was a huge help all day long!

We were a little worried early but the fish started coming in fast.

The remaining original member of the RHBC! Mark Werner and his partner Vince Burt weighed a limit

Warren Whitaker and Michael Parkes had three

Three good ones

Solid fish were biting

Jeff Dawson and Chris Bichler had three

Jim and Will Harcrow had three as well

One weighed 5.99

Long time RHBC member Big John Bruner

Clown Co owner Mike McWhorter came out to have some fun

Wes and Kristin Carlin weighed four and had a solid finish. One of their fish weighed 6.13

We had a large contingent from the McKinney Bass Club come out! Here's Jason Mayo. Thank you MBC!

James Weir fished with James Biggs and had a limit. James donated a gun to be given away which drew a large amount of interest

How can this not be your favorite picture of the entire day? Just plain awesome.

It takes talent to hold five at a time!

My Partner Chris Atkinson fished with his Dad, Jay for this event. He said since I made him fish Hubbard, I had to be in the picture with him. As per normal, I'm holding a fish he caught.

Chris built a custom rod for us to give away with the logos of ACS, FFAC and RHBC on it. The rod is beautiful and was won by RHBC member Steve Tigert in the drawing.

First year member Sevy Bartlett fished with David Burton

Nice fish!

Two more good ones. Dallas Bass Hookers joining us!

Cameron Laing and Patrick Sharp joined the party

Another team with membership in both RHBC and MBC, Kelly Langhorne and Jeremy Collins

Two people I think of as great friends, Brandon Putnam and Robert Oleson came out to fish with us and had a solid limit.

Speaking of great friends, this event does not happen without the steady hand of David Simmons on the rudder.

He fished with another great friend Jerry Brown (who HATES to have his picture taken) and finished 8th.

There was a tie for 6th place with 12.62. Here's Clint Yeager and Kevin Scott

The other team with 12.62 was Doug Rener and Brett Killingsworth.

This is obviously not Brett with Doug. This is his beautiful wife Cara. They were instrumental in the success of this years event!

Finishing fifth was the team of Bryce Glick and Tanner Spurgin

Helping that along was the second place big bass. This hawg weighed 8.72!

Finishing fourth were RHBC members Brian Brooks and James Sharp

Third place went to MBC members Mike Griffin and Larry Tidwell

Second place went to long time Ray Hubbard fishermen Greg Willaby and Tim Meenan. They had a limit but everything revolved around this 8.83 toad that took big bass of the event

Here are your winners! Taking home the first place check of $3,000.00 was the team of Mark Everett and Luke Huffman. There were no monsters in their bag, just that magic day when you have a fat sack of 4 pounders. Congratulations guys!

There are so many people to thank I will do it in a separate thread, but let me say thank you to Scott Gordon who just runs a first class event. We could not do it without you! We do not have a final tally but when we do, I will let you all know how much was raised. I just know that personally, for me as a cancer survivor seeing so many of you come out to support this cause, makes me very emotional. Thank you to EVERYONE that came out to join us whether you volunteered, fished or just came out and donated some money and watched at weigh in. It's going to be hard to top this one, but trust me, we will try.

Tom

Awesome job guys. We had a great time and even got on some fish. The bite was tough, but thanks to my partner Jason, we squeezed out a limit.

Thank you SoCal Tom, for putting on a tremendous event for a great cause. To be able to be a part of this tournament, that has touched me personally, I will definitely support any CANCER supported event in the future. This was my first BIG tournament, and with the help of my partner Mike Griffin, we were able to put together a pattern and finish well against a GREAT field of anglers. Great job everyone
