On Sunday I hit something while running about 30mph. Got towed in and assessed the situation. I had one bolt holding the lower unit to the midsection......the others sheared off. I also broke about a 5 inch piece off of the mid section. I dropped it by my local shop and call Farm Bureau. Adjuster came by today and authorized the breakdown of the engine to assess damage. As of close today he is up to $10,500 in total estimate.
1. Will they cut me a check for estimate minus deductible? If so is it smarter to sell the powerhead and use the check to re-power with a new ProXs?
2. Pull market value on the entire engine and determine if they should total it at that value?
3. What would an 2008 250 ProXs powerhead be valued at? Between 200-250 hours on original.

You should call and speak with your adjuster for these answers. You don't get to determine weather the engine is totaled or not, and if it is, you do not get to keep the engine and get a check for it's value.

From all the chatter from mercury and switching over to 4 strokes full time you may not be able to get a new 250 pro xs by middle of next month, I would get on it quick.

The way they determine the value of the old motor is by searching the web etc to find a comparable one for sale. This is also the way you can negotiate to get more for your motor, b/c usually they offer you much less. Once you start finding comparable motors, even different ones from same year and power... you will start having a better understanding of what that value is. It's kind of like having to determine what your used car is worth, you just get on the computer and see what everyone else is asking. Most likely, they will just give you the value you guys agree on. I would suggest you stress your insurance was purchasewd to keep you on the water and don't let them lowball you, because after all you will need to buy a replacement. If a replacement is cheaper than getting it fixed, they will give you that value. If it is a lot more, they will give you money for repair. That is usually how this works.

I am going through the same ordeal right now, hit something going abut 35 mph. 2017 250 Pro XS. Lower units are on backorder, 4-7 weeks. If I could buy a new 4 stroke I think I might go that route but doubt I can find one of those also. Insurance is telling me 1-2 weeks before they can even approve the claim.

NADA list average value of your motor at $9355. As low as the hours are it may be worth a bit more. Either way seems the estimate so far exceeds the value of the motor. If that's the case they will cut you a check for the value and they keep the motor for auction. You may get an option to buy it back but would probably be better off using the cash as a down payment on a new one. With that being said their new V8 4strokes are backordered about 10 months out.

Mew 250 4 strokes are hard to find and it seems if anyone actually has one in stock they have them priced high. $18,900 plus $600 to ship it.
