I was being sarcastic. He was a disaster the other night against the Sox. That was my point; former players with no managing experience arent the answer, apparently even when you have talent like the Yankees. The Rangers, my friends, do not have that talent, so they need someone other than Young.

How can it be sarcasm? Aaron Boone still has a chance to win the World Series this season.

If they win, it will be in spite of Boone.

the other side of that game was led by Alex Cora another former player with no mgr experience.

They already have the talent there, and the Rangers dont. Plus, Boones inexperience is an issue for them. Will he get that experience before he gets fired? I doubt it, but I could be wrong.

If I was a GM I'd have no qualms about hiring a manager who's never coached in the big leagues. There's been lots of successful managers who never "paid their dues" by starting their coaching career in the minors. If he's ready,he's ready. Michael Young has sat in a dugout watching a manager since he was in grade school, probably thousands of games. Just not sure he has the personality/mental make-up to be a manager.

If I was a GM, Id have no qualms about hiring a manager whos never coached in the big leagues, either, but not one who doesnt have the right mentality for the job or any apparent interest in becoming a manager.

Even a former player who does want to become a manager but has no experience might not be the right fit.

The number of former players who can be hired as a manager with no experience and be successful is small. The number is even smaller when you take into account the talent the Rangers currently have.

Rangers biggest problem, besides the GM, has always been pitching. They hire all these used up pitchers, pay them too much money, and trade them off at a loss. Cole Hamels and Yu Darvish are prime examples. Blame those and others on Daniels. Maybe our scouting department needs an overhaul too. Teams that are in the playoffs seem to find good pitchers in the draft.

I think Young could be a great manager, could be a good fit for a rebuilding team
