IMHO, colleges and universities will continue to raise prices until the optimal price point is met, ie, until demand (enrollment) tapers off. Demand, and therefore prices are higher than in the past because of, again in my opinion, student loans.

Yup. Basic supply & demand. Increase demand through subsidizing it (student loans) and the price of supply will rise to meet it.

A four year degree at Div. 3, Hardin Simmons in Abilene TX currently runs you over $100,000. Can't imagine what the cost are at the major universities.

The major universities are actually cheaper because they arent private except TCU Rice and SMU.

My daughter went to TCU Nursing School. She graduated in 2012. Her four years with everything (tuition, books, meal plans on campus, housing) cost us (no grants or scholarships) about $250,000!

Luckly both sets of grandparents set up collage funds when she was very young. This helped us pay for her collage so she graduated with no student loans hanging over her.

A basic 3 hour class online over the summer at texas tech cost more the it would if my daughter would have taken it in person on campus. 1100 bucks for 1 3 hour class. I set aside 100k for her college and I'm sure I'll end up throwing a little more in. I dont know how much my 9 year old will be.

What is your opinion, since you work at one? I should have asked my buddy, who I was hanging out with last weekend, and is a professor at UNC and his wife is one at Vanderbilt.

I don't work at a university, but I think tuition has grown because we are no longer paying for education, but rather paying for the full "college experience". Most colleges offer wellness centers and much more for the students. It seems that if we were only paying for the education than it would be much cheaper (I am not saying that wellness centers are the only reason, I am just saying that the students are paying for more than just education now).

6.3 million dollars would be my guess.

Make your young un's get as much college in HS as possible. A lot of HS's across the state team up with local community colleges and offer dual credit. They can easily get 10-30 hours of college credit before they even enter college. 10-30 hours = lots of $$$..

I graduated from HSU in 02. Cost for 4 years was around 48k for a private university and a bargain back then. But states schools would have only cost mid 20s for 4 year degree back then. There is absolutely no good excuse for how much the costs have risen in 15 years. My kid is 2 1/2 and we have a college fund set up but Ill b lucky if the fund will pay for 1 year by the time he gets of college age. I keep telling him he better be a better athlete than daddy was and get a good scholarship! roflmao

And A&M is promoting their Engineering School to have 20,000 engineers on campus. Even as much as engineers are in demand, I doubt that Texas can absorb that many into the workplace. Part of the problem is that the Tx Legislature appropriates a small amount of money. And my kids apparently have saved for their kids and can handle it, but it means that so many kids are limited by their parents finances.

no one is limited. they will loan you 100k if you want it. and you can never file bankruptcy. How many parents ever thought they would need that kind of money for that?

If you are a Texas Veteran tuition is waived for your children. At least it was when my daughter went to TWU.
160 hour limit combined.

I have a very different opinion on this after sending two through.

Its a country club, and a "critical thinking" learning center. I would like a do over
