I bought Don Harper's Mapping package for Cedar Creek this week, because since moving here a couple years ago, I've not been able to consistently catch bass at all -- and I've yet to catch one over 5 pounds. It's phenomenal, and I learned very quickly that I've not been identifying and casting to the right places, even though I've generally been in the right spots or areas. Also: My ability to accurately identify funnel points stinks. Looking at this area and the numbers 1-6, which, if any, would you identify as funnel points, and why?

Also, to answer your question. 1,5,6 are all funnel points. However, in my opinion 6 is the best of them. 1 and 5 are so deep they would be very difficult to fish. You'd have to fish the sides of the funnel decreasing your effectiveness. The other key to consider is whether there is any cover where 6 terminates. You can have a great funnel, but if there is nothing to feed on at the end of it, it won't draw big bass.

Points #1 and #5 are where the funnel really pinches in the most.
All those numbered spots look awesome. Could spend a month fully dissecting that area.

All those numbered spots look awesome. Could spend a month fully dissecting that area. The problem here is the depth. According to John most big bass suspend out in around 12 feet and then swim in at that same depth until they contact structure. So in those pinch points at 1 and 5 the fish will either be in the middle of the water column or swimming along one of the edges. If they are in the middle it's very hard to get a jig or any sort of plastic in front of them. John's preferred approach was always soaking plastic in funnels. So you'd have to fish the edges at about the 8-12 foot range. Given how steep they are, it would be very tough. If the depths were half what they are this would be a picture perfect funnel.

If I were a big, gluttonous bass, I'd live where I drew the rectangle. I'd travel down the secondary funnel during the day feeding on food brought by the feeder creek and travel up the funnel at night time to feed heavily on bluegill attracted to those docks. Odds are, one of those two dock owners have some brush piles.

I read that thread awhile back, collincountytx, and thought I understood. In my mind, No. 1 is the funnel point, and you'd want to fish that specific spot.
Mr. Harper shows me I was wrong.

#6 is the best funnel point in the 12 foot depth that Mr. Hope often refers to.

I do think the box would be a great place to fish. If anything were coming up that funnel (1-5), that would be the best spot to contact them. I think big bass are likely to enter at that box or over by number 6. They probably hunt at night around those docks and maybe out on that point. John always said the big bass would just swim back and forth all night ambush hunting. Basically spooking prey fish off the bottom like a bulldog and then inhaling them. The whole idea behind a funnel point though is to try and intercept the bass at a choke point. Ask yourself, if this were a highway, where would the toll booth be? Then ask yourself if you can effectively fish the toll booth. My personal take is that big bass prefer to stay near open water, so they are unlikely to work their way all the way back into the finger beyond #5, as collin suggest, they will probably break left and stay closer to the main lake.

Mr. Harper identifies several spots to fish in this area, and specifically calls out #2 and #3 as funnel points. I think what he's saying is that the funnel may be #1, but the bass will be on 2 and 3. But I may be wrong.
In any event, I have much to learn. It is, after all, what we learn after we know it all that counts!!
