Just what info are they trying to get? Beto. He wants your vote. Now he knows it is a working number. Wait for the text.

Not a phone hack, but they do know now that your number is a working number. Be expecting a call from the IRS, or at least someone saying they are with the irs. BTW, the IRS does not call people.

Its a dialer.
No one was there when you picked up because the chucklehead in workforce is running it too hot or they got a bad forecast on their RPC. That is the contact rate. How many people per hour will answer vs. how many agents should they have available in any given interval. If its an Inbound/Outbound shop spikes in IB volume can also cause that if the admin is not on it and does not slow the dials down on his end when he sees IB volumes coming in over forecast. If IB volume is under he can speed up the dailer and maybe exceed his projected saturation for the day. If he is very good. No one was there because they were all on other calls, or screwing around or have themselves in ACW so they dont get calls and dont have to talk to you. Poor availability basically on the staffing side at that exact time it hit your number.
The ANI's (call back number you see on your phone) on those dialers are non working numbers and can be changed to say just about anything. In collections we would change them daily and some can even project a predetermined non working number that matches your area code...making you think its a local call.
If that was the case its more than likely a company you have done business with as the BS scammers usually dont have sophisticated dialers. They are expensive and require a lot of infrastructure to run. Not to mention some skill.
So at a super 30,000 foot level. Thats what happened to you most likely and kind of some info on how that all works. Its much more complex than that...but thats the basic idea.

Yup. Now you know kind of how that works. If you hold the phone when no one is there as soon as someone frees up it will connect you. Some of the super advanced dialers will have a message telling you that. But if its someone you dont want to talk to, like someone you owe money to, that rarely works and is not worth the $$ IMO.

That sounds like it might be fun. The next call like that gets opened but just gonna lay the phone down and leave it til they say something or hang up. Might even have something interesting on the computer to listen too.

I was going to say the same thing but folks would think I worked in a boiler room like you. I was tired of folks saying it was because that it was testing to see if it was a good number.
