Has anyone tried to mount an transducer sideways on your trolling motor shaft to act like side image? I don't know if an 2d sonar would give you a true reading or would you need an down image sonar. I think Garman make sonar that does this but not sure if Bird or Lowrance have one. I am a poor guy and would like to make my own.

It wont work like that.
2d sonar requires a return back to the ducer for it to work, Garmins got something different in how they work. There is some new stuff coming out for Lowrance next spring, might be what youre looking for.

THANKS, I was just wondering about this.
I have an Lowrance Elite 7 that I am very disgusted with. If I every spent that kind of money again it will not be an Lowrance, I would most likely go with an Bird or Garman.
