Saying that the rocks are slick in that river is a gross understatement. Felt helps, but is not always enough. Studs also help. The best is shoes/boots with aluminum bars on the soles that will really grip the rocks. Trying to wade some parts of that river in a pair of sneakers is a good way to get hurt.

I have debated it both ways. For this trip I will eather rent the boots and waiters when I get there or just get wet. LOL. Ill let the guide tell us how we are fishing that day.

The big take away for me is to remembering to take an extra set of cloths either way.

I am just the type of person who likes having thier own gear. This may sound silly to some, but it is also one of the reason I ask so many questions. LOL. This will also allow me to stay and fish after our time is over with the guide if I want to
want to.

Who is your guide. Just please don't say his initials are SB

Well, it looks like my efforts were in vain. I am now officially triple booked for that weekend.

I now the arguments both ways, but when you are the Assistant Cubmaster and your pack is having a Campout that weekend, well, lets just say I will be going camping and making memories with my children. LOL

Looks like you are in Bells, so I am guessing you are in Circle Ten Council. If that is indeed the case, you'll be going to some camps that have some nice fishing. Take the fly rod if you go to Camp Cherokee in Athens or either of the camps on Possum Kingdom or Texoma. You can leave it at home if you have a campout at Camp Wisdom.

Good eye, and they are generally packed.

I caught a bass last weekend at Camp Constantine, (possum kingdom)

The second weekend in September we will be going to Trever Reese-Jones in Aethens. (Formally known as Cherokee.) This is the camp where I was first introduced to fly fishing in 2016 while attending Powder Horn.

Camp Wisdom has a fantastic fishing pond.

As much as I love camp James Ray, The fishing there is just a chalange. Shore fishing out of Texoma.

My disappoint is that I have never been trout fishing before and that is one of my bucket list items to do.

Oh well, it will happen.

Had no idea Camp Wisdom had any fishing. Of course, I haven't been there in 20 years since I was in Boy Scouts, so I guess things can change. Also didn't know that Cherokee had changed names and I used to go to Camp Grayson (apparently now James Ray) so it appears a ton has changed since the late 1990s.

Don't worry about not having been trout fishing yet. Generally, the fishing at Beavers Bend is better in the winter (or at least a lot less crowded) so just postpone your trip to this November or December.

Been there! I was Cubmaster of my son's pack. Enjoy it while it lasts. Trout fishing will always be there.

I appreciate the optimistic outlook. I think you see my priorities. I have two boys in Cub Scouts and my oldest is a Deb Chief.

It looks like I just need to see what is available in the following months. Maybe my oldest can go with me.

Beaver's bend is pretty good fishing year round. And usually much less crowded in the colder months. Guided trips through the fly shop are very reasonable too.

Camp Wisdom has a small pond in the extreme northwest corner. I caught about a dozen bass there last year from 8-12 on chartreuse and white closers and olive woolly buggers.

Trevor-Reese has excellent fishing in the two big lakes. Ive caught numerous 3#+ fish there over the past couple of years. Small plastic worms work as well as small streamers or poppers. Really anything that makes them mad. smile

Trying hard the get my scout interested. He is good for about 30 minutes, tops.

Isn't it amazing that the fly shop inside the park employs eight guides! I was talking to them just today, and thought that was way cool. And at the same time, the old hand - Rob Woodruff - has picked up again and moved lock-stock-and-barrel to Belize! Seems like a little trip to OK is in order - SOON! Time to shine up the spike soles and dust off the camera.
