I actually fished it this morning. I also fished it about 3 weeks ago for the first time. I only use a fly rod and I haven't figured it out yet so I don't know how much help I can be.

3 weeks ago I launched the kayak from the north ramp and fished the coves and banks going north. The vegetation is extremely thick; up to about 40 feet from the bank. I caught bass in the coves but no bluegill. I caught about 15 to 20 bluegill all on the points. Over half of them were in the 8 to 8.5 inch range but none weighed a half pound or more.

I launched from the south ramp this morning and went north along the bank, past the fishing pier and into the cove. I only caught small bluegill, green sunfish and several bass. The vegetation wasn't quite as thick, but the water was much more stained in that area.

If I fish it again I'll probably try the power plant or dam areas. Any advice on areas to try would be greatly appreciated. I have a lot to learn about this lake.

I wish I had something for you, but I moved and haven't fished it since the plant shut down. It's a different lake now. Should turn into a nice crappie lake if the plant stays shut down.

I fished Fairfield three times this past year. The bluegill are making a good come back and things are only going to get better. Big brown power plant has been shut down for good so this winter all the tilapia will die out. Once that water hits about 60 theyll all be goners. With the tilapia gone it will make room for all the other species to thrive. Im predicting that in the next two years Fairfield will become once again one of Texas is best Bluegill lakes. And I predict that in the next five years the Crappie on Fairfield are going to be awesome. Gives me the tingles just thinking about it.

Great lake back in the day. Would love to see it make a nice comeback.

Well, it will be interesting to see...in my experience other species thrive in the presence of Tilapia. Red fish and Tilapia were the key elements that set Fairfield blue gills apart.
