For a number of reasons combined, my wife and I are retiring to Richland Chambers January 1, 2019.
I've never fished the lake and would love to have anyone tell or show me some pointers about the lake.

I tend to be a "fish aggravator" in that I only take enough to eat right away and release most of the fish I catch, so you have no worries about me over-fishing a good location.

I like to fish for bass, crappie, sand bass and striper in no particular order, and my wife is my constant companion, with only an occasional buddy trip for guys.

Good choice. RC is one of the best kept secrets in Texas. I'd suggest you book a trip with Royse Simmons...it will accelerate your learning curve considerably.

We've been on it a time or two in a rented pontoon boat, no fishing, just taking the kids around. The water is just exceptionally nice on RC. If you drive over the 287 bridge, it looks so clean, almost blue-green in color. Lovely lake!

I'd do exactly what Meadowlark recommends and hire a guide. It'd take you several seasons or even years to figure out a lake that big.

Nice access to I-45 and that makes getting around really easy. Other lakes nearby if you want to "mix it up" from time to time.

We lived in FW, too, before moving to Lake Athens.

Thanks for the suggestions. I planned on hiring a guide, however my wife is a little reluctant to go because sometimes she just needs to go home and would feel bad about cutting short my trip. I was hoping for some starting spots or advice so I could take her and catch a few without having to commit to a half or whole day out.

Go to the dam area and look for the flotilla of boats grouped up close together, they will be catching Stripers, Hybrids, and whites. Top water baits like clear torpedo and jigging spoons will do the trick.

Stumps, lots of them.

PM sent on some good spots for crappie, sand bass, striper and catfish .... you can hit the banks around #2 for bass if you are bored to tears and just want to catch trash fish.

EDIT: I added a #4 if you want to target catfish .... in March and April they are on #4 up against the bank by the thousands and out in the stumps the rest of the year.

The area south of the 287 bridge around toward the dam seems to be the least hazardous area. Even then, there are a few stumps. When on the water, facing the dam, the area on the left (North) is fairly shallow. I believe its often referred to as the "287 Flats". You shouldn't have much trouble finding the white bass and hybrid on the lake, just watched for grouped up boats. RC is more of a fishing lake than anything else. It is one of my favorites in this area. The bass fishing can be really good at times. Fish the obvious areas like points and docks. The water clarity tends to be pretty good. The lake level fluctuates quite a bit, but all in all, I think it is an excellent choice.

I was there last Tuesday cat fishing around the dam. they are pumping in water there. we did get a few then move back out to 287 area. My friend lives there and he kinda know the lake. I would invest in a good typo. map and use your sonar, he show me some flats that were next to deep water. I am more a bass fishing guy but have done very little bass fishing there. I did see a few bass boats fish standing timber and boat houses. My friend live just out of Streetman on the lake.

Did you buy a place on the lake?

On a light SE wind the 287 bridge holds crappie. I say light because that lake is wide open and wind makes for fun times. The flats that are talked about are the 309 flats and is a good starting point for hybrids and WB.
I would think every weekend day boats will be around there. If you have electronics a good map card such as lakemaster will help as the lake has a lot of rocky shallow points that extend a good way into the lake. If nothing else and you aren�t opposed to trolling, troll smallish deep diving crankbaits along the dam. You should catch plenty to eat.

If you are on the Dam end of the lake, look for the 309 flats and troll a deep diving crankbaits (chrome and blue , chartreuse and blue, in the areas it drops off to 20 and 30 feet. We have caught big, big hybrids trolling those area and making a curve to troll back thru where you find them. Hang on tight. You will swear that you have hung a trash can lid and then they will keep making runs like a freight train. Also for crappie, we have done best on salt/pepper jigs fishing timber. Don't get too attached to any tree. You will typically catch several off 1 tree and just move onto the next tree. Plenty of good timber to fish with big crappie. Great Lake, with not a huge crowd. Except for the prices of homes there, you made a great choice.
