Thought I would share. My dad and I went down for a few days last week. Stayed in our camper at Hilton Head Rv which is on the beach. The Mosquitoes were unbelievable after all the rain they had here the last few weeks. If we went outside other than the beach, we had full frog tog rain suits on. We were using 40% deet and some were still getting through.

We arrived Sunday and checked roll over for bait. It was I believe $5 a pound for mullet. It was afternoon and the tide was out so we drove on the beach and immediately started catching mullet in our cast nets.
Monday morning we set up our surf rods, caught fresh mullet on the first gut and and walked out as far as we could without swimming. Casting out would only yield gatops. Surf was flat , water felt great and no sea weed. I have an inflatable Kayak so I blew it up and ran a line out. This yielded our first bull red. The surf was so calm I finally just paddled out about 500 yards. Using large cut mullet It was steady all day catching gaftop and bull reds. Your bait wasnt in the water more than a few minutes pretty much no matter where you casted. They heard the splash and would come running. The next day, doing the same thing with the same conditions only yielded gaftop. We probably caught 100 of the slimey turds. Some where 4-5 pounds. Wednesday was the same but we did manage a few bull reds. Tired of holding my self up in an inflatable kayak, we walked our lines out and casted past the 2nd sand bar. Gaftops and 3 small black tip sharks were all we could catch. I tried different baits caught in the first gut. Croaker, and any other fish. All yield was same. After around 9am the tide would bring in some green water along with alot of popcorn shrimp. First gut was loaded with bait and normal fish. Still, alot of gaftops. Alot. 3rd day was also watch what I assume was spanish mackerel schools exploding on shad what were all over the place. They were just out of reach. A flat bottom boat could have easly been launched and one could have had a blast.

Can't wait to go back

Dad and I both went out in the Kayak.

Built a bait launcher. Didnt need it because the surf was calm, but the first test using fresh mullet went well. Shot as far if not further than us walking out.

Plenty of big Bull Sharks out there. Beware of sharks and possible rip currents along those sandbars.

Its a good time if you can get in a big school of spanish macks. Ive spent several hours in a yak chasing them around 1000 yards offshore. Just make sure you have plenty of bait, beer and tackle. Good report. Glad yall had a good trip.
