First off, I've never had a problem there and I will continue to fish there. This is just a heads up.

Apparently today there were 3 different robberies on the lake. Border Patrol is advising anglers to stay off of the water. I was told by a casual acquaintance, who was told by a border patrol agent. From what I can tell, it seems that they are disguising themselves on a regular bass boat and are approaching people. Not sure where this happened, but I'm currently trying to figure that out.

This is not 100% confirmed, I'm just passing along some info. Don't shoot the messenger.

Anyone else have any insight as to what is going on?

I heard that the cartels are having a fight over turf right now.. From the top to the bottom of the lake.. I heard of no robberies today.. I have heard some stories I cannot corroborate.. I know a friend of mine was run out of the Salado by a boat today.. And the guys had guns.. Seems that they are trying to keep Americans off the Mexican water..

I fished yesterday in Coyotes and Blanco and saw nothing..

I am trying to gather some more info and will post about it tomorrow.. But for now I think it best to stay off the Mexican side of the lake..

I did not hear abut this [censored] till this PM..

Wish I knew more.. Working on it.. But I can tell you that the cartels are having a turf war right now.. Hopefully it will be over soon.. Or as over as it can get.. BP and other law enforcement have stepped up patrols etc..

Straight from James himself. Be careful out there guys and use common sense.

Cant be true......so many on here say it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO safe.

It is sad that you have to even consider such things while fishing.

I work on the border, its unusual for them to mess with Americans because they dont want the spot light shining on them anymore than it already is, but NEVER take that for granted, especially on their side of the border, they play by a different set of rules. When in doubt be very cautious. Its probably not likely they will mess with you but its very possible!

Send Jeff from Iowa over there on a recon mission. He will get it straightened out.

Isnt that what they always say stay off the Mexican side or go at your risk I think the border patrol tells you this dont be stupid.

They are smart, they should be advising people to not eat all those damn beans at Tina's for breakfast then go out in boat all day.

Headed down there next month and plan on staying on our side. Never had much luck with Spanish speaking bass and they remind me of my ex-wife, short and fat.

We just got back from there and spent most of our time on the Mexico side, including Salado, Salinillas, agua Blanca, and coyotes and didnt see anything of the sort. Just Mexican fisherman and lots of bass. I say fake news, we didnt see anything of the sort and felt safe the entire time.

Just pay attention. If a boat gets closer than youre comfortable, trim it high and let it fly.

Just loosely looking at the reports and how the lake has been fishing the last few month, isnt most the productive water on the U.S. side near the dam anyway? I think id just go grind a crank bait on the dam face until I caught a good un.

To be honest, after spending 7 days on Falcon in the last two weeks I'd be surprised if there were enough boats on the lake for them to rob 3 of them.

That said, on Friday I did have my first odd experience down there in 9 or 10 years of fishing the lake. We were fishing a small point in (I believe) the Salinias... plenty of bass boats near by... A Mexican in an aluminum boat came up on us pretty fast, asked how the fishing was, and then tried to sell us pot. We politely refused and then he asked for water. We gave him a bottle and he moved on. Location in the image below (there was fish there by the way)

Well shoot thats just being friendly and good service if you ask me!

There should be an app to order up some pot, or beers, or whatever from a Mexican in an aluminum boat anytime you need it while on Falcon.

Just click where you are, what you are wanting and they will bring it right over.

Seriously I have been down there 5 times, makes me an expert (ha!), only once did we go to the Mexican side and all those dang nets made it not worth the trouble.
