Through postings on their respective social media sites, 2016 Bassmaster Classic winner Edwin Evers and 2000 B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year Timmy Horton announced Monday evening their intentions to compete on the recently-announced Bass Pro Tour in 2019.
Evers made the announcement on his Instagram page while Horton used a live video segment on his Facebook page to reveal his plans. They were the first known anglers of the 80 invited to publicly disclose their intentions to join the BPT next year, likely ending their distinguished Elite Series careers in the process. Both have been Major League Fishing competitors since the series began in 2011 and also have significant sponsorship ties to Bass Pro Shops, which is the title sponsor of the BPT.
In subsequent posts Tuesday, the following anglers also announced their plans to compete on the BPT in '19:
> 1 Skeet Reese
> 2 Marty Robinson
> 3 Zack Birge
> 4 JT Kenney
> 5 Greg Hackney
> 6 Jason Lambert
> 7 Chris Lane
> 8 Alton Jones
> 9 Alton Jones Jr.
> 10 Jeff Kriet
> 11 Randall Tharp
> 12 Gerald Spohrer
> 13 Fletcher Shryock
> 14 Dave Lefebre
> 15 Michael Neal
> 16 Andy Montgomery
> 17 Kelly Jordon

My question is, why does Scott Martin only stick to FLW? With his skills and marketing ability, I feel like he could take this fishing thing much farther, but hes always just stuck with FLW, which to me seems like the web.com tour.

Why on earth would he leave? It's arguably one of the best gigs in the sport. He's got it made. Minimal competition, easy travel schedule, top face of the platform, good sponsors who are happy to be involved. Moving for him does nothing but introduce more downside than upside.

First photo op I saw advertising BPT showed KVD standing next to Johnny Morris and Jim Wilburn. Just assumed he was in.

I understand hes done well with what hes done, I just figured he would want more and could very easily achieve more in the sport, FLW is boring!

I have a strange feeling that the announcement schedule of each angler was planned. So many announce each day, to keep everyone tuned in.

So his winnings over a bunch of years is over a couple million but Im assuming he makes most of his money by sponsorship, if he dominated on the Elites wouldnt he be worth more? I dont know Im just asking, I like the guy and just wish he would have Mixed it up with the better anglers that were on the Elites and now going to MLF. FLW seems to be a lay up for a guy like him. Just my opinion, always have been curious why he just stayed with FLW when the true best anglers were always on the Elites.

Not arguing with you for sure but I think most people lose sight of the fact that professional angling is kin to running a full time business that takes fishing skill, marketing skill, building a platform, managing budgets and most importantly, making a profit at all of that. I don't measure the success of a pro angler against podium alone. There's a lot of really good anglers that could compete and win and they're no longer around or relevant because they couldn't manage the rest.

Scott Martin manages all of that quite well in my opinion.

I agree with you Mark. He has done something with FLW that no one else has done. He has a MASSIVE following with his YouTube and TV productions. He can sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor.
