Spending the summers on my Grandparents farm, my brother and I were in charge of getting the
bait if we wanted grandma to take us down to the creek. Of course we'd dig red worms.
We also would find anything else we could use, wasp/yeloowjacket nests, all kids of garden variety baits..
tomato worms, milkweed worms, grass hoppers and crickets, I mean anything we could put on a hook.
But last night while watching the news I see this clip on 'army worms'!!! are you kidding me...?
The first thing that goes through my mind, and I'm an old guy, is where the heck were these when me and my brother
were looking for baits all day. I mean the grass and sidewalks were covered,...anyone taking advantage of these..???

it's kinda tricky, we would use big wasp nests with the larvae still in the nest.
We had a big barn, they would build the nests up pretty high, we'd take a bamboo
fishing pole and knock them down, and run like heck. Go back later and get the nests..
bream love them.. bolt

I do not use live bait while fishing for sunfish. I have caught a lot of sunnies on small Roster Tails, small crank baits, and Gulp Alive Products. Best results on the Gulp Alive Minnows. woot

Also love using my fly rod with a sinking Salamander or a Lady Bug! hooked

Never target the sunfish but from all the reports I have been reading here in the Bluegill section the bait of choice is live worms.
