I hear ya. I've had three wood burning smokers for years; but bought a propane Big Easy on clearance last year to do the Thanksgiving Turkey, and it was the best Thanksgiving Turkey we've ever had. Propane works really well at that 325-400 degree range, so it's great for grilling/kind of smoking lean meats like chicken, turkey, thick cuts of fish (salmon steaks), and kebabs (and it's so easy it's cheating)
Looked down on propane for a long time, but it has it's time and place.
Brisket, Pork butts, Ribs, other cuts of meat smoked in that 225-300 range-- wood smokers do a better job.

My dad has the electric version of the Big Easy (the Masterbuilt oil less infrared Turkey fryer)
He did the Christmas turkey on his and the meat was very juicy and moist, the skin not as crispy as with the propane Big Easy The electric version doesn't get quite as hot as the propane version
I'd say the electric version likes to run at 300-350 while the propane version likes to run at 350-400.
The heating element on the electric smokers is a network of bars that get hot. The heating element on the propane versions is a circular burner. A circular burner heats a little more effectively and powerfully than electrically heated bar elements.

The propane cooker can get up to 400 degrees if you need it. The main problem with it was the burner. It has to be clean or you can soot up some food in a hurry.
