I havent bought tungsten jigs yet but yes for worm weight... thats all I buy now. I was the skeptical of worm tungsten weights at first but Im on board fully now.

I personally don't think it makes any difference at all. If you know how to fish you can feel a fish with either one. I used to feel the same way. Probably true if you are flipping timber. I went from using lead and mono to tungsten and fluoro, and it makes a difference. When you are fishing a lake that is 99% rock and you are looking for isolated stumps, I find it is much easier to distinguish the 2 with tungsten. Maybe it doesnt help you feel the fish better, but IMO it helps me find irregularities in the bottom so I can make repeat casts to those areas.

There's more to it than just feeling bites, as several others have already mentioned, but you're correct. Give a skilled angler basic gear, they're still going to catch them. Give a skilled angler top-end gear, they will probably catch more. Tungsten shines when dragging on long-line and punching dense cover with heavy weights, in my opinion. The smaller diameter makes a big difference punching, both in getting through the cover and increasing hook-up ratios by not opening the fish's mouth as much when the weight passes back through on the hookset.

As everyone has said in this thread it lets you feel the structure, rocks, wood, grass etc, so you can fish better.. ie pausing on twigs that with lead you would have not felt.

I switched to tungsten several years ago and wouldn't even consider switching back. Definitely worth the extra cost. Would like to find some heavy tungsten jigs that were affordable just can't afford 8 to 10. Dollars per jig.

If you can afford to fish with Tungsten, well then, that is your best option. No doubt on the feel.

Not sure I catch any more than I did with lead but I definitely like the smaller size/weight ratio of tungsten. My thoughts exactly.

I have always use lead jigs and weights and have been looking at using tungsten but am curious if it is worth the price have you guys seen any increase in strikes using tungsten over lead Like Chris said, it probably won't help you get more bites but you can certainly feel the bottom structure better with it and the smaller size helps you get the hook in the fish better most of the time. When a bass takes a soft plastic bait, typically the weight goes into the fish's mouth as well. When you set the hook, the weight normally is pulled out of their mouth thereby forcing their jaws to open to allow the weight to pop out. If you are on them really good, you will see the scratch marks from their teeth on the weight. Common sense says the smaller opening of their mouth the better your chances are for a good hook up ratio. Hope that makes sense. What a great answer !!! It does make sense. Just like the old timers say use the smallest weight possible to get your bait to where you want it

I would use tungsten if it was not so expensive
