It seems like this forum has been a little slower than last year. Has everyone been doing more fishing or just moved on from fly fishing to noodling?

A week plus of a total of 16 plus inches of rain has put a damper on my efforts. Before the rain,I was getting out some.

I'm going out in the morning. I'll post something if anything turns out - just to get some movement on here...

Its good to hear that yall have been getting out on the water. The heat and an 11 month old have kept me indoors most of this summer. The times that I have been able to get out the fishing has been good. I just wasn't sure if it was that I a haven't been able to get out much so Im spending more time on here or if there are just fewer people posting up on here.

Good reasons for not fishing, a baby at home and the heat. I dont fish as much from a kayak when its hot. I try to find a ride on a boat or wade in the surf.

Fishing has been good in the surf, most of the time, theres something and a little variety of fish to pull the line . The surf is iffy though sometimes being too rough for me to get reasonably comfortable fly fishing. I keep the Surfside webcam bookmarked to let me know when its right or right enough.

I think Ive been on four boat trips out in the salt since May. One we really never found much to cast at, one we found some fish, but not really what we were looking for, one we found a little of what we were looking for, but the targets were mostly unresponsive, and one was where we found them and the Fish mostly cooperated. Boat trips are fun adventures where we can cover way more water than by kayak and get to spots that cant be accessed by truck or kayak. Im very comfortable fly fishing out of my buddys center console and most of time find a corner of the stern to set up shop in. Its helpful my friend doesnt fly Fish so theres not two fly lines whipping through the air at any one time to deal with.

The Commander kayak is still probably my favorite way to go, but summer heat tends to shorten my trips and make them less frequent. With the kayak, I follow my own plan and set up the fish hunt like I want it to go.

I mainly fish the area lakes but haven't wet my fly line since the water temps are now above 90+. It's been mainly pre dawn trips with a BC setup. By late October my fly rods will be back in the boat until March.

Went to White River at Cotter Ark last week. Fished 2 days with a guide. First time nymphing. #22 flies are way too small for my old eyes and shaky hands. Flow was way down and fishing was slow. I caught 23 the first day and 17 the second. Saw some big browns but no luck. Learning curve was huge for an old.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

The times that I have been able to make it out this summer I found the best results in creeks and rivers. I had great luck on the Brazos where I found fast moving shallow water feeding in to a deep pool.
