Uhhh, find out the pros and cons before buying one? Get out and paddle it, any strengths and weaknesses will appear. Online reviews are pretty positive.

As for the pros it's going to be more stable because you are sitting lower, even with a raised seat than you would on a sit on top kayak. It will also be more stable standing because your feet will also be below the water line and you can brace your legs against the side while standing for extra support. You have more room for gear, and some will say it's a con because it has no scuppers....All you have to do is ask those kayakers that fish in flooded timber and stickups, and how they felt when a stick slid up into their scupper hole and locked them in without anywhere to go but jump into the water to free themselves. The cons are that water doesn't drain if you are in a hurricane and don't have a bilge pump, but I've used a sponge to get rid of water that came from my shoes from getting in and out, but that's about it. Also they can be a bit hot in the summer but the Kilroy has an open cokpit so that's not much of a worry. You might not look like one of the cool dudes but hey, it's a comfortable kayak and very stable one, so you should be happy with it. For safety reasons always wear your PFD, and practice deep water re-entry in shallow water until you get a system down for getting back in should you turtle. On that kayak, you are more apt to fall out of it, than fall off or turtle like a sit on top. Just remember to keep your head inside the gunnels and not hang over the gunnels like you can in a boat and you'll be fine.

I am a big fan of the Kilroy, but i could be a bit biased, very fast and stable compared to other paddlers I have tried. Tracks really well, relatively light for what it is (without seat or deck attached), gear stays dry, seat and lumbar support pad are one of the most comfortable options you can find anywhere, and the removable front deck is one of my favorite things about it. Storage and space were big for me because i enjoy kayak camping. Not as stable as some of the wider boats for standing, but very stable none the less, I've had no problem standing and fishing from mine. Have never flipped the boat but i have fallen out like someone above said, leaned a little to far to the right and ploppppp, I went with the Kilroy originally because I figured it would be a good all around kayak for rivers, ponds, & lakes. So far it has been

Good reviews. If and when my Commander 140 ever completely bites the dust, the Kilroy LT is the one Ive been looking at. The Commander 140 has been a perfect kayak for me, naturally, its the one they discontinued. The standing with feet below the water line is a big plus. Being stand up stable is the single most important aspect to any future kayak I get. Having an uncluttered deck that wont snag fly line might be second. Weight and not being heavy as a tank is a close third.
