For that little of use just rent something. No vehicle likes to sit for long periods of time.

That should be fine, the 6.o motors had issues the first years.

What's been done to the motor, if anything? Biggest known problem that I'm aware of was the head studs resulting in blown head gaskets, expensive repair. A lot of them were covered under warranty or done by previous owners. Only way I'd buy one without the head studs being redone would be if I could buy it at the right price, meaning really cheap. I bought my son an 04 F250 with the 6.0 over a year and a half ago with the ARP head studs. If you know what you're looking for it's easy to visually see if they have been redone. I've replaced the Y-Pipe, brakes, front hub assemblies, drive shaft support bearing, basically normal wear items.

I'd suggest having a mechanic check it out and don't believe anything from the owner. I bought my son's particualr truck because I really trusted the owner and what he told me. Cost me a few thousand dollars extra due to trusting him.

If its cheap and you like it have a mechanic check it out first. My neighbor has spent a fortune on his 6.0. I remember my framer telling me it cost him $11,000 when his blew an engine.

You're rolling the dice regardless of what you do by buying a 12 year old vehicle but I wouldn't want the 6.0l or 6.4l diesels unless they've had an egr delete. Heck, that 6.0l is the main reason I'm now driving a Ford gasser.

you are just a guy with some sense. I am waiting see how the new Ford diesel does. Won't be surprised if is not like other early versions of Ford motors like the 5.4 and EcoBursts.

You talking about the 3.0 or the 6.7? The 6.7 has been around plenty long enough and done well enough to be respected as a good engine.

If your looking for a good diesel in that date range I would go for a dodge with a manual or a chevy/GM with the Allison. Maintenance records mean more than most and if it looks like its been hot rodded then leave it alone.
