BASS should have listened to the anglers a long time ago. They brought this on to themselves.

Why cancel the western tourneys and then come back and make it more profitable for the anglers. When they could have brought this up weeks ago. Whatever they lost my support when they cancelled the weekend series and made it a pro tour only company. Whatever dude

First off, thats not what this is about for Johnny Morris. Second, the Andersons have plenty of money. Theyre not struggling... grin

Now that they have to they will. It is actually a good thing for all of the fishermen.

When will this happen to boat prices? peep
when boat manufacturers find it impossible to sell a FOOL an $80,000 bass boat, then ...and only then... they will cut their huge profits a little.

So, in part, the reason BASS went to an 80 angler field was due to this mass exodus. Even still, I think they will have to dig deep into the Opens field to get to 80. Just my .02 cents.

However...with all of that being said, this is actually a great opportunity for the 2018 elite rookies and even the 2017 guys. You get to fish for a lot less and don't have to fish against KVD.

Not arguing with you here simply asking. How are these Open anglers (if they have to resort to that) going to be able to pay their entry fees? Do you really believe there are 20,30,40 or 50 Open anglers with the ability to pay for entry fees and travel for a full BASS season? It's still going to be $75k plus to handle fees and travel for the new guys.

Where's that sponsorship money coming from if the BASS platform is diluted?

The Open guys WANT to win and play. They will have the money, as it is part of their plan anyways.

I know three open guys that have been invited to fish the elites over the last two years. Yep....they are poor old, fresh outta college, fishing dudes. They all are making ends meet and will be at it again this coming season.

Fingers crossed this style of fishing does not permeate lower levels of bass fishing. I'm all for an organization challenging B.A.S.S and their antiquated system, but I really think the MLF bank beating style of fishing is going to be a bore to fans. Maybe (probably) Im wrong, who knows.

When I mentioned Opens I didnt mean it shouldnt cost more than the pros, I think the Opens is extreme for the $ and travel.

Has anyone maybe thought there is an agreement with FLW/BPT and that is why top FLW guys didnt get an invite yet and they will eventually get farmed in and not hurt FLW because they are working without arrogance. I think the Classic will always be around, just ownership changes as it has before

One name keeps being forgotten in all of this. Gary Klein. Duckett and him started MLF. Everyone keeps talking about Morris and Duckett. Let's give Gary his due.

Nope. Never even considered an agreement between FLW/BPT. Nor do I believe either organization would engage in such a practice.

Some final thoughts for a few days.

BPT launched a new trail that far surpasses anything EVER available to professional fishermen.

BASS counter punched with a weak miss. But fired back with a solid punch today.

BPT is making a 3 yr commitment to their anglers.

BASS is offering a one yr deal. They'll surely move that goalpost tomorrow.

BASS trying to claim increased professional fishing $ and 'exposure' in their 'announcement' today. Really?

I've always lived by a strict standard in my professional career. I give my employer everything I have, every day, start to finish. If my performance warrants more, pay me. If it doesn't, let me go.

I've been in the same BUSINESS situation many Elite (and other) anglers find themselves in today. But only twice in my 34 year career. After communicating to my current employer what was out there, several times, there was no counter-offer available to them. I left both companies. And have thrived well beyond what came before.

Best part is, lots of guys are gonna make a living. For a year, anyway.

On a hypothetical 3-year investment, I'm short selling the BPL IPO disruption and going long on B.A.S.S. & FLW. Looking farther into the future, it's takes time, performance, promotion, and an appropriate forum for professional anglers to build their brand and shorter time to diminish it. I believe that angler brands will suffer as their sponsors transform from angler to entity - weakening the angler's position. BPL will need to constantly draft/develop anglers whom benefit their mission (not sure how or from where) and the question is whether there is a viable replacement pool?

I agree with others and don't believe the B.A.S.S. restructuring is perpetual and sustainable going forward but appreciate their candor in not inferring this...

Why is someone a fool for buying an $80,000 bass boat? Would that also mean, someone is a fool to have a $1MM+ home or a fancy sports car or nice things they happen to like? Everything is relative in life and I wouldn't call someone a fool for buying what they want.

Why on earth anyone would post about that, Ill never understand... if you cant afford it dont buy it. If someone can, dont begrudge them. 2cents

FLW Responds, "As a result of these changes, weve been asked how FLW is going to respond, and the answer is: We arent." It appears FLW is moving forward with no further changes.
