The MLF thread has me thinking about the "dink fest"... Myself I would rather catch (20) 1-3lb fish any day over one or two big fish. I like getting bit but I fun fish for the most part and maybe fish one or two tournaments a year. I don't get the fish all day for five bites mentality but again I fish because I have loved to fish since my grandpa taught me how as a boy not to win money.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

It depends on if I'm fishing a tournament or just for fun. For fun I would prefer 20 1-3 fish over one or two 5 pounders. But if we're talking about a giant 8+, I think I'd rather catch one of those. For a tournament I feel like if I'm catching a lot of 2-3 pounders that I'll eventually come across a kicker or two as well so it would be hard to leave that pattern

I prefer size, I fish a lot of 6-7" glide baits for 7-10lb bass. I do agree that quantity would be more fun consistently, but I cant get over the thrill of seeing huge bass come up, even if I have to grind for it.

Both. I like the blind hog/acorn theory, catch 50 fish, a few have to be good 'uns!

I feel quality will come if you're catching numbers. So I go out with one mindset. Catch as many fish as I possibly can in a day. And its worked.

Fished a club tourney last year on PK and we caught over 100 bass and 17 stripers. Only weighed in 4 bass and didn't even finish in the top 10. Had a blast, but I was disappointed when we went to weigh-in - we sucked. I quit the bass club thing and tournament fishing last December and now I just fish for fun, so much more enjoyable!

I go to catch as many of the biggest fish possible. If I run across a school of smaller ones I'm going to wear them out as well.

I need to focus on the easiest to catch. 99% of the time, that is not the giants.

Fish for 5-6 hours on hot and humid day without a bite and I guarantee your mindset will change. A one pounder will work just fine. I'll take any and all the fish that are biting 4oz and up. thumb

Generally speaking though a dink fest will bore me to death. I strongly prefer to at least be fishing water I think has potential to produce larger fish. I get virtually no thrill out of a 2lb bass. I hook them, I land them, they are back in the water so fast I barely even have time to processes it. For me the ticker starts going a little faster at about the 5lb mark. Nobody remembers the 20 fish day of 2lbers. Everyone remembers the day they caught the giant.

Have to disagree a little there J, I've had the pleasure of catching a 14 pounder and I've had the joy of catching the 20 2lb'ers and I remember them both. The ones that haunt me are the days when I didn't catch squat. The odds of me repeating the 20 2lb'ers is much greater than catching another 14 and the odds of me zeroing again are better than either. When I pull my boat out of the garage and head toward the lake my goal is to catch fish. Any fish. Now if a biggun gets on my hook that's great, but I love'm all. I even like catching sand bass, stripers and crappie. I just love to catch fish, period.

Quantity is more fun. Quality is more exciting.
