so it's another day on the bayou fishing for gar and bowfin. been there a few hours with bites here and there nothing big. so I sit back and bust open one of the sandwiches I had brought with me for a snack and munched it down. once I finished I noticed my line wasn't anywhere near where I had casted it earlier and my line was limp. so I started to reel in slowly cause gar as well as bowfin are known for that tactic. as soon as I tightened it up my reel started shouting. as the ten minute mark of the fight hit I was pumped thinking I bagged a Juicy bowfin or gar then this guy surfaced. my face went blank so Brought him up for a quick photo shoot

I found cut bait works the best I use smelt fish it's a small bait fish from the Pacific a little bigger then a finger mullet. I find them at Asian supermarkets around Houston but I'm sure cut up freshwater drum or bluegills would work just as well as far as set ups go I use anywhere from a 3 oz to 6oz egg sinker with a foot and a half 35lb steel leader cause they are toothy guys and have snapped my braid in the past. Hope this helps ya get a big ole bow banana

Sweet! I've always wanted to catch a gator on rod and reel. You just carry duct tape around with you?

Nice ... that is a surprise for sure. Great job in landing it and not cutting your line like many would do.

Nice GATOR! Friend of mine caught a small one on Lake Texana a couple of years ago using ultralight tackle. We were fishing for Bluegill. thumb

I carry everything fishing tool wise you can think of in my backpack. I usually stay on the bayou for an entire weekend camping out. but I mainly use the tape to tape together these carp corn chumming setups I make I usually use those tubes that tennis balls come in drill a series of holes in them duct tape the two ends after filling it with corn and throw it in the water it brings in the bigger carp just let it set for a bit and then throw your bait next to it you'd be surprised how big they can get and they give a great fight
