Has anyone launched in the neches at the Chandler park lately? Just wondering if it's too low to find water to fish out by the railroad trestle.

I've only fished the lake and river for 5 years and have never seen it too low to fish somewhere along that stretch as there were some 10 foot holes at regular levels.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I drove over it on Hwy 31 last week going to and from Tyler and it looked fine to me . . . though my view was limited. Then, some rain fell in the area the last few days and that will help.

I have bank fished it several times, need to drop my kayak in there soon and give that a go.

From the parking lot on the north side of 31, west side of the Neches, you can pull in there and drop your kayak off right into the water. It seems they made a little ramp out of concrete sacks.

Most I have seen have gone down toward the lake and the bridge, but I have also seen a few guys work up to the north.

Decided to go to lake Naconiche instead of palestine and absolutely wrecked them this evening.

Two hours in the yak and had a 4.1, 3.5, 3.2, 2.4, 2.2 a few just under 2 lb. All caught in under 9 feet of water around hydrilla.

Good choice!

What a great lake, a really exceptional one for kayak anglers since it can be a mess to navigate in a power boat.

What areas did you decide to fish?

As things stand, I think several of us are planning to make a trip out there in October one day or one weekend, this once the weather breaks and the the fall bite is on.

Brad,

I went north across the lake from the swim area to the skinny cove and fished the west side point and caught some. Then fished my way north to the next cove on the east side, no luck but tons of hydrilla out to 12 feet.

I got to the cove and my lowrance showed very little grass, plus no bites so I went to the north point and all hell broke loose, they were stacked on that point. All the fish I caught looked very healthy, plus I was the only person fishing, no boats. But I did notice one truck/trailer in the lot when I was leaving.

It had been over a year since my last trip and I noticed many of the widowmakers had fallen, so I wasn't looking skyward as much.

Big ones on a VMC 1/8 oz belly weighted hook w/ a zoom lizard, and the rest came on the old standard weightless fluke.

Thanks for the added input.

Fun lake, and for anyone close enough to fish it, I think it is worthy of making a few trips each year. I sort of like the idea of a spring trip centered around the spawn, a fall trip for bass feeding up for winter.
