I posted this in the lure building section but I guess it doesnt get enough attention for any replies! Does anyone know what wood Roman made swimbaits are made from? I am getting into wood carving my own baits and I cant figure out what they use.

I would think any softwood (ie. balsa, cedar or pine). I'm sure there are differences in how well the take paint or holdup over time, but that's where I would start.

They do not state the type of wood used for their lures. Only a special wood from Japan hand-carved at their Lake Biwa facility.

You will have better luck with this on a swimbait forum. I would try the swimbait universe on facebook or swimbaitunderground.com

I also doubt a company that sells $400 baits is going to put that information out there

If I were to guess I would say Paulownia wood. A different Japanese company makes $300 dollar stickbaits out of it

I don't think they say but they do say that they test each piece to find the floating characteristic that they are looking for.

The autopsy of the bait was very interesting. Would take a lot of trial and error to make one that would work.
