My 15 year old was tying a jug to some driftwood from the front of the boat and was going to release it in the current of a notched wing dike. As I let the boat drift away, he let the line out and dropped the baited hook, the hook caught his finger during the release and the weight of the boat in the strong current pulled the hook through his finger (actually... I had to finish the barb through myself---- hardest thing I ever had to do - when it's to your own kid). My crappy rapala needle nose cutters couldn't cut the shank, so we had a 20 minute boat ride back to my truck to get some good wire cutters. I now have really good cutters in my boat box. Once the shank was cut, I pulled the hook out and did a 15 minute iodine soak in a shot glass when we got home and dressed it ( I was a trauma nurse for years, so I have all the "good-stuff" in my medicine cabinet). While cutting the shank off he said "at least we got some jugs out". We went out the next morning to check lines and then went bass fishing that evening. Great / tough kid! Makes me proud.

Is he up to date on tetanus shot? I had to ask.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

Yep. One of the first things I did when I got home was search for his shot records.

Great job, I know that had to hurt some. Glad you were with him, plus he is old enough now to remember and will watch out for hooks in the future. Hope he is continuing to mend, and now he has great story to tell his friends. Take Care

I put a treble hook into my finger on Lake Conroe. Fortunately it was a big hook and I was able to push it through. IT HURT!

Be safe,

That hurts just looking at it. Glad he went back the next day to run lines with you .
On the creek and off the street.

Great story and nice fish!

I accidentally snagged my wife with a shark hook in the cheek (the other cheek!) on Bob Hall pier! With true Texas spirit she had a couple of dozen good samaritans willing to help out!! She let out a puirdy good scream when the barb got pushed through! I felt really bad but a week later she snagged my son in the head!! Am I wrong for feeling vendicated! LOL!

I'm lucky and haven't taken one past the barb yet. I'm sure it's only a matter of time though
