Anybody ever tried them? The look odd, but the consensus is they almost never snag up even in timber. A lot of tournament river fisherman up north seem to use them. Pretty easy to make yourself. I think Im going to make up a few and try them. I broke off 4 lines last night with no rolls and Santee cooper rigs. Always so frustrating.

Have not tried them but have a lot less hang ups since I switched to pencil weights for drifting. Using a 3 oz on my long lines and 1.5 oz on my planer boards.

They work pretty good . I meet Larry Muse a couple years ago at a Lake Livingston benefit tournament and got some in a raffle. Larry said he makes some that are 3ft long for heavy timber . They have 4 oz. of lead shot in them are pretty simple to make with clear tubing and epoxy.

That is 90% of my drifting weights. I use a few other kind I have made but the tubing style is my favorite. I use bb's in mine. Easier to come by and cheap.

Im gunna make up 10 or so and give them a shot. They arent the cheapest sinker, but if I break off 3 times less often, I come out ahead.

I drift very, very little. However, I have considered making a few for the few times I do drift. I saw an easy way of making some on FB with barrel swivel, mono, 1/4 oz egg weights, beads, and heat shrink.

The draggin tails are very different from regular drift weighs. They are a 30 piece of plastic tubing filled halfway with birdshot or bbs. That half sinks, the other half floats up over snags.

But my main question is, do you not need the front half to be empty so that it floats? Also, yours seems wider than the ones Ive seen online and less flexible. Im guessing they work wel for you though or you wouldnt be using them.

This is for fallen timber in rivers or standing timber in lakes?? I can see how they would be good for fallen timber or stump fields but I dont think they would help much for these big ol sunken multi branched Bois De Arc trees on my lake. Be awesome if I could drift the submerged forest on Lake Lewisville.

Can someone come up with a rig to drift submerged standing timber please! My back cant handle pulling box anchors out of 40 or 50 ft of water anymore.

Spot-lock... haven't set an anchor all summer. Haven't gotten the fish to bite either. Can't tell if it's cause or coincidence.

Easy for you to say! Toms got forearms like Popey the Sailer Man. You barely even have to use your back with those anchor pullers Tom!

Nana EG!!!!!.....But I am taking the cat-poles cause I've been scanning the shallows lately and it's unbelievable how much catfish is just sitting all around in this area. Heck I was catching them where they were mixed in with my Crappie!!

I was able to make 8 of the 30 sinkers for $32. That included buying everything thing at ACE hardware which is always a little more. Team catfish sinker slides ($8 total), and having to buy gorilla glue ($4). If you ordered stuff online or Atleast went to Home Depot, you should be able to make these for about $3 each for a 4oz or so drift sinker that is very hard to hang up. Should come out way ahead considering a 3oz no roll is close to $1 each

These worked incredibly well. I was just fishing big muddy flats the other day, but the rod tips didnt even bounce when dragging. Made it very easy to detect even light bites while drifting.

I didnt post any pictures. I did use orange wire nuts and super glue, and eye bolts with a bunch of superglue to hold them in. You dont need foam. The tubing naturally floats since its sealed up. I put them on sinker slides. Once I anchored shallow, I just took off the drift sinker and clipped on disc sinkers.

Well 9 times out of 10 were drifting current in The Arkansas river....some times rock bottom...sometimes sand...sometimes hard clay.....depends on current speed and bottom conditions on what kind we drift or drag ( when the water is off) the long one at the top is for drifting rock and gravel bottom in the current it bounces pretty good W/O hanging Sinker # 2 is for faster current smooth bottom aero-dynamic in the current....uh i just noticed i tied that one bacwards..LOL the bullet should be facing the rod when dragging... # 3 is a slinky para-cord weight we really use them in the bigger lakes smooth bottom with peg corks on the line you can let out a lot of line for a smooth pull The flat ones is experimental at this stage...I like the bottom one the best...light current bounces along the bottom pretty good with a really small peg cork.... They use the plastic 16-30 inch tubes in Alabama for drifting but i didnt have any issues dragging or drifting using the very top one ... it bounces off stuff pretty good... I use as light of sinker for drifting as possible.....now dragging takes a little heavier version on my deep rods straight down...

Cheap Rednecks use small short sections of chain like on dog walking collar chain. Spray with auto undercoat to dampen the jingle. Tie on with mono as a breakaway. I suppose you could heat shrink to add $

Small nylon wire ties will connect to swivel and break away also if hung
