Hey Guys/Gals,

I enjoying throwing the A-Rig and catch a lot of decent fish on it...Why do People not throw it Year round- like most other baits?

It seem pretty cut and dry that the A-Rig is a Fall/Winter pattern?

Maybe I'm wrong but can anyone please explain the reasoning behind this?

My experience is it works great those certain times of year but then I can catch them much better on other techniques the rest of the year.

Probably because it's such a pain in the --- to throw and during the warm parts of the year you can do just about as well or better with other lures and presentations. It's still killer in some situations during the warm months, but I throw something else if I can.

Why on earth would you use one presentation year round?

A lot of people throw certain presentations year round. Texas fig is probably the most common presentation to throw all year.

For me, it is great working around humps, rocky points and shorelines, but around timber it gets hung on everything. So when fish move up shallower and there is timber, I stop throwing it. I haven't fished it around heavy grass as I prefer other techniques, but it seems it does better in colder temps than warmer.

Use 65 lb braid and some lighter hooks in the timber. Once you get hung up just straighten the hooks out to get it back, then use the needle nose pliers to bend your hook back. I can't explain it but it simply works better in colder clear water.

My arms have usually fallen off from throwing the rig by summer. Have to throw T Rig for awhile till they grow back

I just don�t have confidence in them... sure if I put the time in to learn more about the technique and what baits to use and when I would throw it more often though. Just a lot of work

I like an open hook but in timber, I always use a weighted hook with a screw in attachment for the bait, also burying the hook in the bait. Works great.
I never use a hook that has been bent back into shape. If you bend metal, you weaken it. I always replace them.

It seems that I always throw a bladed arig with better results. Do many of you switch back and forth between blades and no blades?

Fish tend to suspend more in the winter

I use the Hog Farmer four blade / five bait rig almost exclusively. Never had a rig failure.

I'm targeting fish that are suspending in trees...Trees in deep water 40-50+ foot depth
The fish are suspending around 25-30 feet in the trees...
Its a "hairy" situation since I'm getting hung up with cranks and the jigs go right past them with limited bites
The plan is to fish around the timber and not directly thru it if possible...in an attempt to lure the fish out of the trees to strike...I have tried weightless flukes but they just aren't getting down deep enough

I figured the A-Rig was my best option although I have only had good results with it in the fall/Winter-I was a little reluctant since never really hear guys throwing it in the summer
