Seems like a lot of rod. I think that's the XD Cranker. I like a shorter rod to make more accurate casts. I like the 5-168 size falcon rod for spinnerbait & buzzbait. The line is probably fine. I use 50# power pro as it's a smaller diameter. Typically, it's a shallow water tactic for me. It's works about anytime. Spring and Fall are probably the sweet spots for the pattern. Lay downs, stumps, vegetation and grass are good places to try. I like it in shallow stained water too. White or black is all you need. Size can make a difference. I like to throw the smallest I can get away with. Anywhere from 1/4-1/2 oz are typical. I have seen where smaller than 1/4oz was the ticket. However, I usually have 1/4-3/8 tied on. There is a ton a good info on YouTube.

I like to throw a Cavitron and the Strike King with the frog on it. I go back and forth on the trailer hook. I never use it with the frog. I generally start with it on the Cavitron and take it off if I feel it is causing me to miss fish.
I throw a buzz bait a lot. I throw it over the top of submerged trees in 20' of water but about 80% of my "buzzing" is done in under 5'. If I am fishing really shallow by the bank I like to sometimes throw it onto the shore so it doesn't make a big splash then start reeling it.
I throw it on a 7' MH rod with 20lb fluorocarbon. A buzz bait isn't like a popper or walking bait that need mono or braid. I lose fish with braid. Your set-up now basically has zero "give". If you jerk at all you will pull it right away from the fish. High speed reel is good.
One of the best tricks with a buzz to me is to not just reel it straight in. I like to reel a couple turns then give a little twitch. I also smash it into anything I can and twitch the rod anytime I am next to something in the water (log, brush, rock, etc.). Hope that helps. I love buzz bait fishing.

Plastic trailer on the buzzbait Makes it more buoyantdont have to reel it as fast Gives the bass an attractive target Gives the bass something soft to bite and hold on to

WOW! Makes sense since I have been pulling the bait away from so many fish...I thought Braid was a must like Frog fishing...
I have a few Buzz Baits I modified: Just the cut the head off and twisted the wire in a loop, added a small swivel and a Owner Weight Twist Lite 6/0 (3/32) and a 4.8in Keitech
Looks super sweet and virtually weedless...but still missing the same fish
I'm switching rods...I have a spinnerbait rod I can use
Thanks Ya'll

LunkerLure brand.
Clamp the bait to a fan and run it until the blade begins to squeak.
(be sure you also carry a few of the 1/4oz. models, sometimes they catch the biggest fish)

BB's work just as good if not better with a little chop on the water.

Missed fish are part of fishing a buzzbait and/or a frog. However, are you waiting until you feel the fish before you try to stick it or just setting the hook on the blow-up? If it's the latter, your gonna be heart broken a lot..

My Baby Doll Buzz is patterned after the Hydrilla Gorilla built for Lake Amistad grass in the late 80's. It is a compact Buss; so when they hit it the hook is right there next to the Blade. The blade strikes the lead head producing a sound that Big Bass cannot resist. The older it gets the better it gets. The skirt is the old school flat living Rubber Minnow Scented.

I fish Mono for buzzbaits since it always seems like I was too quick on the hook set. Also maybe check out what Jacob Wheeler does because he seems to be beating a lot of top talent with his buzzbait skills. Also no need to tie your Lunkerlure to the fan. You can break one in from Anne's to Umphrey while doing the speed limit.

Look up Bounty Hunter on the face book and look at his buzz baits and stuff that he makes. He makes a very nice buzz bait.
