So I have a birthday ending in a 0 this year and Im trying to figure out where to go. Right now Im thinking Arizona for some trout fishing. I have always wanted to fish for them but never have. I also really dont care for cold weather. Can anyone recommend a guid or another option on where to go and a guid service? Any place near a southwest destination would be a huge plus.

In November Id be hitting the white for giant browns. Most mountain areas like youd be fishing in Arizona or anything out west will mostly be frozen over.

If you're looking for trout fishing in Arizona, Lee's Ferry is a great place to try. Lots of fish, great scenery and very accessible.
The San Juan river in NW New Mexico is another great trout fishery and should be relatively comfortable fishing in early Nov.
Both those places hold incredible numbers of trout and are reliable fisheries most of the year.

Another vote for the San Juan in November.
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

The San JUan isn't necessarily a place you want to learn to fish for trout though.... that is an advanced fishery. IN November, you are kind of limited to tailwaters in the Western US. I second MCC - think about SOuthern Missouri and Northern Arkansas White river fisheries for giant browns.
The Green River below Flaming Gorge is good in NOvember, but weather could be tricky. Also not close to a destination unless you consider Durango or Montrose a destination.

Thanks everyone, I have my trip planned now. I'm heading to the little red river in Arkansas. Now I just need to get my 6wt out and get used to casting it again.

Good luck, Mitt. I have not had much success fishing the Little Red; have done much better on the White and the North Fork. On the Little Red I fished Libby Shoal a couple times without a strike, Cow Shoal once with one brown caught and at the park just below the dam one time where I caught four rainbows. If you find the magic fly/spot let us know!

Taneycomo or below bull shoals is where I would be, Ive heard the little red is hit or miss as well. If youre going to head west do it In the summer and fish tribs with dries. Wild fish in tail waters out west are not for the faint of heart. I learned the the hard way on the south platte in March.

Using a guide? Highly recommended. Arrange one at Ozark fly shop at swinging bridge. Spawning run usually on at Cow shoals that time of year. Can be big fluctuations in water level due to generation, but you can often drive up or down stream to work around it. Generation schedule at 501.362.5150.
