I've been several times before, I always wear swim trunks and old tennis shoes. Going on a trip with my wife next weekend and for some reason she is freaking out about what to wear.

Anyone with a more discerning clothing pallet or have a wife/girlfriend/daughter than can give some insight to "appropriate" women's wade fishing attire?

Rayguard boots and long pants calm the nervous a lot.
Jellyfish have been pretty annoying lately, they aren't the ones that leave welts, but the ones that will leave mosquito bite marks. I wear knee high hodgeman wading boots and usually shorts, but those buggers get in the three inches between and make me look like momma took a switch to my legs.

And just to be on the safe side, if you're wading POC south carry a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and wipe yourself down with it right after your wade, especially if you're walking around the backwater lakes.

Thanks for the recommendations. We will be wading in the surf when the wife goes. Got a chance to go out of Corpus this past weekend with some friends, fishing wasn�t hot but we did catch 9 with one 18 incher on soft plastics.

Just one jellyfish encounter with her wearing shorts and you will never hear the end of it. It will be your fault for the rest of your lives, and probably the last time she ever fishes with you. I'd go with the Magellan convertible fishing pants from Academy for about $25.

For most spots in the Gulf, I like the cheapo water socks the sell everywhere for $5-10. And get the kind with a draw string that you can cinch up tight if you are in some mud. If you are going to spend a lot of time on really rocky terrain like the jetties or maybe a really thick oyster bed, you may want something heavier.

She will also want long sleeves, a sun hat, and good polarized glasses. Maybe a buff.

Fished the surf Friday morning with a guide limited on reds and 7 trout, biggest trout was 24.5 inch my bride caught and I�ve been hearing a lot about. We got her some Magelin pants and old tennis shoes and all was good. I hooked into a big blacktip shark I watched hit, he peeled about 100 yards of drag and bit me off.


Took some of a red to Paradise Key and had it blackened for dinner probably the best fish I have ever had either home or out.

Hit the south jetty this morning for some more fishing and struck out, just a few hits on lures but no hookups. Surf was ruff, so we called it quits there but wife wanted to fish some more so picked up some shrimp and fished some pilings, caught 5 mangrove snapper and left them biting when our bait gave out.

Awesome trip! You mind me asking what guide/location? My family just arrived to Surfside, but the surf is looking a little too angry.

I'm new to saltwater fishing and don't understand the Texas Gulf Coast snapper nomenclature except for the Red Snapper. The state has limits for Lane and Vermillion Snappers. Is one another name for the Mangrove Snapper? If not, is there a Mangrove Snapper limit?
