So i have noticed more of the 4 stroke mercury pro xs motors coming on alot of boats. Has anyone ran one yet, or heard of any major problems with these. I know they are the new line up, and I am definitely a 4 stroke person just for the non mixing of oil.

I wouldn't hesitate getting either the 2 stroke or 4 stroke if it was the right hull, just looking for some input on this new motor that isn't a commercial for it. I would love hearing input from the smaller sized engines like 150 and 200 as well.

The reason your seeing more is because they discontinued the larger 2 strokes completely, too early to tell haven't heard any bad though.

Few minor issues dealing with something on the oil cooler (a line or gasket), but have not read about any major issues yet.

Ken Smith, KenSmithFishing.com, has had one on his Ranger for a couple months or so and hasn't mentioned any problems.

I would not hesitate have a 250 SHO, I have a 115 now, and I wouldn't hesitate having a Mercury Pro XS 250 4.6L V-8 4 Stroke on mine. banana

I have the new merc. Sounds great and it performs better all round then the optimax. Slighty faster on the top end in my opinion. Oh yeah it sounds awesome!

Watch Ken's video. He has owned the same boat now with a Merc 250 V6 two stroke and now a Merc 250 V8 four stroke. He got his before Merc even made the announcement they were coming. He is the only person I know that has owned both motors on the same hull.

Agreed and I also predict there will be a BUNCH of used boats for sale by this time next year.

Should be some really good deals on nice boats with two strokes coming soon. I am already seeing some guys putting their motors on the market so they can buy a new V8 Merc!

Yea, if you look at Motors for sale on BBC you will see quite a few 250 proxs 2 strokes.

Don Weed says they are back ordered until March, if you buy today! eeks I wonder if Merc had a clue that they were going to sell this many this fast. Guess it doesnt help that you still cant buy a SHO.
