Muenster, TX. Pick up some sausage at Hess Meats or Fischer's Market. Eat at Rohmer's for Germanfood or hit up Dieter Bros. BBQ in Lindsay on the way.
Great little golf course too north of town, Turtle Hill GC. Shops on Main st.
Family has a place up north of there along the Red that offer some day type stuff and overnight lodging, RedRiverBreaks.com
Take a drive north of town on the loop around to Saint Jo or Nocona back around to Muenster. Pretty scenery. Nocona has some neat shops too. See small town North Texas.

I did this last month for three days
Great trip. The drive from Nocona north to Rowland and Spanish Fort is through some beautiful country
The drive from Nocona to Montague to Bowie then looping back through Stoneburg to Ringold is nice also

It's a killer weekend getaway from DFW.

Dan, seriously take a look at Jefferson.

Sounds like you need a poofy type B&B, with things to do in the day and fun at night. Jefferson has it all.

Yeah the thing is we just have the one day. No overnight. Folks have to work. But I do like that idea I am going to back pocket that one for next time when we have a weekend!

Oh, if thats the case then just drive any direction for about two hours. When you reach that two hour mark find the nearest and least expensive lodging, check-in and have relations until its time to head back.
