From what I understand they shut the power plant down and that killed off the fish.

After several years when a late Summer fish kill occurred, TPWD made the decision to stop stocking Redfish. The fish kills would occur when the conditions were just right for one to happen. Never quite understood but the cloud cover, temperatures, lack of oxygen, etc. all combined to cause the kill. Last time it happened, there was an estimated kill of over 3 million fish including, Redfish, Catfish, Largemouth, etc. Since then the Power Plant stopped generating and the water no longer warms. Still reports of decent catfish, some largemouth and I think there's still tilapia in the Lake. Really nice place to camp but not known as much of a fishery anymore. (However, heard the locals like to keep it quite so they have it more to themselves.) smile

The plant quit generating this last February (2018), so I'm afraid all the tilapia along with any redfish that are left will die this winter when the water gets below 60F. That's going to be a big mess because there are millions of tilapia.. But the largemouth and channel cats have made an incredible comeback!
